Developer - Full Stack
The Washington Post is hiring a Developer for our site team (washingtonpost.com). On the site team, you'll play an integral and varied role in the future of digital storytelling; from presenting our content and data to our users on the web to building newsroom and product team facing tools. Sample projects include:
Grow our A/B testing and key metric reporting capabilities
Newsroom tool to deliver breaking news to all platforms
Build new platform to streamline coverage of live events and breaking news
Collaborate with product, design, and news to develop new features across a variety of news events -ie. mid term elections, Winter Olympics - and expand other platforms - ie. Progressive Web App (PWA), Apple News.
Spending 75% of the time writing code, and the other 25% getting feedback from customers, deciding which features to build and how, and sharing your great work
Exploring and bringing new technologies and architectures to our technology landscape
Building and deploying to production all the time, making the lives of our users better, helping us sell our platforms - aka. making a difference
Building and scaling apps from scratch
Bachelor's degree in computer science, equivalent field, or equivalent experience.
Node.js experience desired
2+ years of creating user facing experiences on production sites.
Experience in server side technologies (Python, Java, or Scala), Docker, and AWS
Familiarity with revision control systems, especially Git.
Ability to deal with ambiguity and work in a highly agile environment.
Strong desire to learn new technologies and a willingness to tackle complex, technical problems
Working within a DevOps environment a plus
