Program Coordinator, Office of Neighborhood Life - Division of Student Affairs

Georgetown University's Office of Neighborhood Life (ONL) supports students, non-students and residents surrounding GU. Our office educates students about GU policies and local laws; builds and strengthens relations by facilitating dialogue; and promotes civic citizenship to create a positive quality of life.

The Program Coordinator provides a full range of administrative support to the Office of Neighborhood Life staff.  S/he serves as the front office representative for the office when interacting with students, faculty, staff, parents, community members, and vendors; assists with educational programs surrounding off-campus living expectations, DC laws, and University policies; and manages off campus housing listings and opportunities.  Reporting to the Director for the Office of Neighborhood Life, the Program Coordinator has duties that include but are not limited to:


  • Answers telephones, screens and handles incoming calls, and directs them to the appropriate person.
  • Responds to walk-in inquiries - students, parents, members of the Georgetown University community, and residents of the adjacent neighborhoods.
  • Composes and types general correspondence to students and community members, and relevant Government agencies through management of the email.
  • Opens, sorts, and distributes mail.
  • Updates and maintains Office of Neighborhood Life websites.
  • Maintains and updates office literature - for example, brochures, handouts, and magnets.
  • Provides administrative assistance to the Director and Assistant Director.
  • Maintains and orders office supplies.
  • Creates, maintains and provides analysis for several data worksheets including the Basic Business License list and the Student Address List.
  • Maintains and updates the trash monitoring violation spreadsheet and the public display exemption spreadsheet.
  • Collects and uploads data regarding student and community trash to the appropriate database (Advocate or Jot Form).
  • Coordinates student work sanction hour completion and communicates regularly with the Office of Student Conduct.

Educational Programming

  • Coordinates the weekly “Pop-Tart Tuesday” programs.
  • Assists in assessing the needs of off campus students and administers programs to meet those needs.
  • Interacts regularly with the Georgetown Student Tenant Association and local government agencies to assist students living in the community.
  • Serves as a resource person for students on matters related to living in residential neighborhoods, including - for example, city trash/recycling disposal rules, opportunity for inspection of dwelling for repair and/or safety issues, relevant District of Columbia laws, and securing a residence for academic year breaks.
  • Assists in coordinating and executing the annual Housing Fairs.
  • Participates in the department and division strategic planning process and assessment efforts.
  • Accepts assignments in support of the Office of Neighborhood Life programs, including working with various departments in Student Affairs, academic programs, and other relevant assignments.


  • Meets weekly with supervisor.
  • Attends monthly Georgetown Community Partnership meeting as determined in consultation with supervisor
  • Attends professional development activities within the division of student affairs (prior approval required).Assists with the development and administration of communication with off campus students.


  • Bachelor's degree  - preference for Master's degree in higher education or student affairs administration, counseling, or related field
  • 2 years of experience in office management, customer service, and/or program development
  • Strong Excel skills with an eye towards statistical analysis 
  • Knowledge of higher education practices, student needs, and community partnerships preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to take initiative and to work in a supportive and collaborative way with students, colleagues, and neighbors
  • Ability to work efficiently, attend to details, and follow through with assigned projects or tasks
  • Ability to build strong relationships with colleagues, students and community members
  • Thorough understanding of and commitment to building town gown relationships as well as the education and character development of college students
  • Knowledge of DC housing laws and tenants' rights, as well as DCMR regarding trash and property maintenance
