Job Type: Full-Time Location: 1015 N. Quincy St., Arlington *METRO-accessible*, Virginia       Arlington County's Public Library seeks a librarian to join an innovative team that continuously strives to anticipate and meet community needs, maintain rich library collections, and improve upon a 98% customer satisfaction rating.

The Adult Services Collection Development Librarian works in coordination with the Collection Development Manager to manage the centralized adult collection development program for the library system and ensure that collection directions and decisions are coordinated across genres, collections, and formats. Collection Development is part of a Materials Management Division that centrally reviews, selects, acquires, catalogs, and processes all materials for a system that includes a Central Library and seven branches. The successful candidate will participate actively in library adult services teams and support front-line staff by providing relief at the adult services reference desk.

Duties of the position include the following:
  • Selecting system-wide adult library materials in print and electronic formats in English and other languages within the appropriated budget allotments;
  • Evaluating adult collections and recommending collection development policy and procedures;
  • Planning and managing adult collection development initiatives and collection maintenance activities;
  • Training staff in the use of collection development and management tools, policies, and procedures;
  • Analyzing system statistical data and applying it to collection decisions to meet collection goals;
  • Collaborating in a team setting with acquisitions and bibliographic services;
  • Coordinating with public services staff on collection management;
  • Providing programming support for system-wide initiatives; and
  • Developing and maintaining effective community partnerships.

 Selection Criteria: Minimum Qualifications: Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited college or university, plus two years' professional experience providing library services with at least one year in collection related work.

Desirable: Preference may be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following:
  • Managing a centralized collection development process;
  • Experience with a variety of vendor selection databases and/or online acquisitions systems; and/or
  • Selecting library materials in Spanish and/or other non-English languages.

 Additional Information: Work hours are typically 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, however work hours may vary based on library needs and may include evening or weekend hours as necessary.
