The Department of Transportation provides project planning, engineering design, construction management, and subsequent operation and maintenance of the County’s transportation infrastructure.

Employee will be responsible for leading, managing and directing the planning, implementation and day-to-day functions of the Traffic Systems Engineering Team within the Transportation Systems Management Section.  This five-person team is responsible for the design, construction and maintenance of Traffic signal systems and the County FiberNet program.  Duties include leading, supervising and managing a team of County professional and paraprofessional staff, engineering technicians, consultants, and contractors who are responsible for planning, designing, operating and maintaining the County’s signal system and FiberNet; developing and maintaining signal timing and phasing; developing and monitoring budgets; establishing and maintaining effective contacts with officials of local, state, and federal government in support of the aforementioned programs, meeting and corresponding with citizens, community associations, and elected officials to address complex issues regarding Traffic signal technologies to improve operational efficiency; manage the preparation of studies and evaluations regarding signalized locations; provide for confirmation of deployment and maintenance of fiber optic and copper communications cable plants as required to support FiberNet, Advanced Transportation Management System (ATMS) and Traffic signal programs; develop and manage all necessary contracts in support of Traffic signal and FiberNet programs; work closely and collaboratively with the Transportation Management Center regarding communications cable plants in support of the ATMS programs; participate in and support the TSSM program.  A significant component of the employees’ responsibilities involves thinking, planning and utilizing sound Traffic engineering principles, and anticipating and developing advances in Traffic signal system technologies that can enhance the County’s efficient management of available roadway capacity and improve safety.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience:  Five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience in Traffic Engineering.

Education:  Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree.

Equivalency:  An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

License:  Possession of a valid Class "C" (or equivalent) driver’s license from the applicant's state of residence when required for job-related duties.
