The Developmental Engineer plans, organizes, manages, and implements systems engineering process to assure required capability over life cycle of Air Force systems. Included are accomplishing specialized engineering processes and sub-processes; formulating engineering policy and procedures; and coordinating and directing engineering and technical management activities and operations necessary for system conception, development, production, verification, deployment, sustainment, operations, support, training, and disposal.

The successful candidate will be the Lead Engineer, planning, managing and implementing innovative projects, matching vetted needs w/emerging technologies. Additionally, assist government personnel in advocating for R&D funding and monitoring and submitting SBIR/RIF topics. Finally, coordinating with System Program Offices to transition technology to aircraft platforms, weapons and mission systems. Potential candidate would be a former Air Force 62E or other service equivalent.


Functional duties include:

Technical management associated with the requirements definition, design, manufacturing and quality, test, support engineering and technologies, modifications, spares acquisition, technical orders, mission critical computer resources, support equipment, and specialized engineering.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Essential Qualifications:

    Demonstrated Requirements Generation and Management requiredThe ability to engage/utilize three key processes [JCIDS (capability requirements and non-materiel solutions), Defense Acquisition System (materiel solutions), and PPBE (resources)] in concert, to ensure consistent decision making while delivering timely and cost effective solutions to the warfighter requiredThe ability to perform and integrate within a senior staff: Excellent communication skills; shows tact, effective listening skills, follow through, detail-oriented and organization skills requiredPrior experience performing engineering technical analysis requiredDemonstrated knowledge and experience with DoD Architecture Framework (DoDAF) requiredIn-depth understanding of the Joint Capabilities Integration and Development System (JCIDS) process requiredSignificant Project Management and staff work Experience requiredTechnical writing expertise requiredDemonstrated experience with common computer aided design software (Visio, SolidWorks, AutoCad, process modeling and Simulation software) required.

    A Technical Acquisitions background highly desiredSignificant MS SharePoint designer experience highly desiredUnderstanding of the Systems Engineering Process highly desiredSOCOM Acquisition, Technology and Logistics experience desired [Demonstrated experience working with government, academia, and industry to provide rapid research and focused acquisition, technology, and logistics support to Warfighters, delivering the most effective capabilities]DAU Systems Planning, Research, Development and Engineering (SPRDE) Level-2 minimum or Level-3 desiredLab experience desired (e.g. AFRL, NRL, etc)Knowledge Management Decision Support Experience desiredDemonstrated Process Improvement/Service Improvement/ Value Chain Analysis experience (Six Sigma Preferred)Knowledge of aircraft systems a plusProgram Management Office experience desired (DAU Pgm Mgt Level-I, -II, -III a plus)Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency experience a plus
Education 1. Bachelor's Degree in a related technical discipline.

 2. Master's Degree preferred.

Qualifications 10-15 years of related experience.

The work is performed in an office environment

Possible short term TDYs to meet with users

Must be able to obtain a passport for OCONUS travel, if required
