Job Description Throughout our year history Gannett Fleming has been an innovator and leader at a global level providing world class services in engineering consulting design program and construction management With more than offices worldwide we are consistently ranked among the nationa s most prestigious engineering firms Our people are our secret to delivering excellence as promised We have fostered a culture promoting progressive thinking to tackle complex engineering challenges transforming creative ideas into reality We are committed to supporting your career goals by providing professional development and training the opportunity to work with respected industry thought leaders while at the same time encouraging a healthy work life balance Our benefits and perks are competitive because we want to see a smile on your face as we change the world together Since Gannett Fleming has played a major role in some of the most multifaceted and iconic engineering accomplishments in the world Join us in our journey as we continue to provide thought provoking customized solutions to our clients improving and sustaining communities for the next years Responsibilities Gannett Fleming has openings for a Transportation Construction Inspector to join us in VDOTa s Northern Virginia Culpeper and Fredericksburg Districts to inspect all phases of construction on highway construction and maintenance projects The Inspector oversees monitors and independently inspects routine highway construction phases for maintenance bridge signal installation and roadway construction projects Measures tests and checks materials methods and installations to ensure contractor conformance with plans specifications and contract documents Documents contractor progress on a daily basis inputs data into automated software systems and generates reports and correspondence Minimum Qualifications for Transportation Construction Inspector years of VDOT experience and knowledge of roadway structure and bridge construction methods materials standards construction symbols and terminology Knowledge of mathematics to include algebra geometry trigonometry Ability to read interpret and analyze roadway structure and bridge plans as well as contract plans specifications and documents Ability to apply mathematical formulas and engineering principles to determine minor adjustments to construction plans Ability to maintain detailed records in accordance with VDOT perform required materials testing and communicate effectively written and verbally with agency and contractor personnel and the general public Ability to inspect and verify highways work zones and traffic control setups are in accordance with current standards Skill in the use of engineering and testing equipment and competent in computer and software use Windows MS Office Word Excel e mail and Internet Physically able to lift and carry pounds testing equipment safely navigate construction work sites with uneven terrain stand and sit as needed on project work sites climb ladders and work at heights CB Job Requirements High school graduate GED Valid drivera s license The ability to obtain a Virginia DOT Security Clearance Construction inspection experience with a DOT or consultant inspection firm or a combination of education training experience in construction including design build engineering project management or materials handling which demonstrates the ability to perform the work Possesses the following VDOT Materials Certifications Asphalt Field I II Hydraulic Cement Concrete Field ACI Concrete Field Soils Aggregate Field Slurry Surface Surface Treatment and Pavement Markings Other certifications Fall protection and confined space training Guardrail Installation OSHA Safety Nuclear Safety Transportation Work Zone Traffic Control intermediate level and flagger certification DEQ Erosion Sediment Control Inspection and DEQ Stormwater Other specialty certifications may include WACEL ICC NICET NACE and CMIT Construction manager in training are a plus Will be required to work outside normal hours to observe contractorsa progress as well as in emergencies inclement weather and heavy traffic conditions Ability to work at heights and within confined spaces May be required to operate or work in the vicinity of devices containing radioactive materials and emitting low levels of ionizing radiation Requires safety shoes Gannett Fleming is an Equal Opportunity Affirmative Action Employer including veterans and disability status NO AGENCIES PLEASE Unsolicited resumes from third party agencies will not be accepted Gannett Fleming Inc will not sponsor an employment visa egHB visa including any visa renewal during employment for any candidate for this position No relocation assistance will be provided for this position Local residents will be given preference
