HCR ManorCare provides a range of services, including skilled nursing care, assisted living, post-acute medical and rehabilitation care, hospice care, home health care and rehabilitation therapy. The Manager of Plant Operations plans, coordinates and conducts capital improvement projects at healthcare facilities within assigned geographic region. Consults with facility operators to maximize value of improvements and facility maintenance resources within healthcare industry and regulatory requirements. Oversees work of and trains/develops Assistant Managers as needed. Responsibilities: Autonomously manages, plans, bids, schedules, coordinates, oversees project execution for multiple projects and multiple facilities Communicates with regulatory agencies, contractors, facility operators, architects, engineers, designers, management, purchasing buyers regarding technical, scheduling, and budgetary project issues Consults with facility operators to determine need for, scope, and approach for capital improvement projects Prepares contract documents, reviews work completed, approves and accepts work, and reviews and approves invoices for payments Consults with facility operators, engineers and management regarding facility maintenance issues including interviewing, training and oversight of maintenance personnel troubleshooting issues within buildings Consults with, mentors, trains and advises facility maintenance personnel Completes physical plant surveys detailing condition of facilities and required documentation in preparation for regulatory surveys Updates project cost and schedule data for reporting to management Consults with facility operators, staff architects and state regulatory personnel regarding life-safety compliance issues at facilities Attends and participates in scheduled in-service programs and staff meetings. Maintains confidentiality of necessary information. Utilizes supplies and equipment properly and without waste. Thinks and acts calmly and logically to meet unusual occurrences of the job without being thrown off stride. Supervision Staffs the department with capable people. Plans the work for employees with due regard for performance and skills. Terminates employees, when necessary. Ensures that employees are adequately oriented and trained to perform their duties. Assists and encourages employees in developing their skills and self-confidence and in understanding where and how they fit in HCR Manor Care operations. Sets meaningful individual objectives and specific job expectations. Ensures that employees know what is expected and the standards by which they will be evaluated. Gives adequate guidance and supervision. Optimizes use of employees' skills. Periodically reviews employee performance. Recommends promotions for employees who have demonstrated both a capability for and a willingness to accept increased responsibilities. Ensures that individuals are properly paid for sustained performance. Creates an environment that encourages excellence. Recognizes and rewards initiative, imagination, and work well done. Sets a good example. Gives employees sufficient authority to make the necessary decisions to carry out their assignments. Establishes and maintains effective two-way communication to understand the needs and concerns of employees. Communicates employee attitudes and expectations to higher management. Properly manages employees' personal information. Recommends changes in policies and practices wherever employee needs are not being met. Ensures that potential safety/health hazards are eliminated or controlled through regular reviews of work activities, materials, and facilities. Identifies and maintains accountability for security within assigned areas of responsibility. Ensures employees understand their obligation to protect company and employee property. Takes appropriate action when security infractions occur. Experience in interactions with state healthcare regulatory agencies required. Job Specific Details:Exerts up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. frequently. Light work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree; climbing, talking, crouching, depth perception. Travel: 40% regional(VA, MD); 80% local (predominately in metro DC area)
