About the Opportunity DMI is currently seeking to hire a Network Engineer to support an Information Management System for a Federal Government customer on a long-term contract in the DC metro area. Duties and Responsibilities: Perform network management to include controlling, planning, allocating, deploying, coordinating, and monitoring the resources necessary for proper network operations, maintenance and services for the agency architecture. Coordinate with other contractors or vendor personnel to promptly resolve issues, questions, and problems. Provide high quality IT capabilities and services that are expertly integrated with the agency business processes and enable the accomplishment of needed information processing by performing the network operations, maintenance and services listed in this section. Assist in operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting agency communication infrastructure, equipment, systems, procedures, etc. Provide expertise in the current network topologies, protocols equipment and utilizes state-of-the art network management tools for monitoring, collecting, analyzing and reporting system performance data. Continually research the commercial market for equipment/system upgrades to enhance the agency network infrastructure. Configure and maintain Cisco routers, Cisco switches, Juniper Firewall devices, and all associated network equipment, including creating /maintaining routing tables, Access Control Lists (ACLs) and Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs), in a diverse router and switch environment. Set-up a test lab on all new equipment for upgrades, stand-alone testing and later parallel operation prior to implementing to the operating system. Maintain a daily operations log to document significant events affecting network operations and/or application services availability. Maintain a weekly maintenance schedule to document maintenance activities for the upcoming week. The schedule shall contain, but not limited to, system being maintained, date/time of scheduled maintenance, and the name of the Government representative that authorized maintenance. Responsible for resolving service problems; performing expert maintenance; and installing configuring and testing all types of data communications equipment. Troubleshoots network hardware using test instruments and diagnostic programs. Maintains data network equipment and services to ensure working order and demand availability by performing scheduled, routine on-line tests and by checking, adjusting, or replacing equipment to establish standards. Installs and tests various communications equipment and services to specified configurations and ensures proper working order for new or updated network service. Installs conduit, cable and junction boxes to support a wide variety of data communications requirements for interconnecting both secure and non-secure information systems network equipment (including workstations, PCs and printers). Terminates and splices twisted pair, coaxial and fiber optic cables as necessary and specified by the particular task/delivery order. Specialized experience includes, but is not limited to, analysis, design, and installation of computer-based systems; analysis, design, and installation of local area nets; and analysis and installation of communications systems. Education and Years of Experience: Bachelor's degree, related technical training (or equivalent experience) plus at least two years of directly related experience.
