EMPLOYMENT TYPE Full-Time HR ANALYST Olivia Finley WORK LOCATION Baltimore City Introduction The Science Services Administration, Water Quality Protection and Restoration Program is recruiting for a Research Statistician I. This is a position specific recruitment for the Maryland Department of the Environment. This recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies for this position/function only. The resulting cert list will be maintained for one year. Persons interested in future vacancies within this classification must re-apply. This position is in a non-competitive classification series. Employees in this classification will receive a non-competitive promotion to the Research Statistician II, grade level 15 upon one year of satisfactory employment while performing full performance level duties and working under general supervision. GRADE 13 Main Purpose Of Job The Research Statistician is an entry level position within the Science Services Administration. The incumbent in this position will assist with maintaining the integrity of data-sets to be reported to the EPA. Responsibilities involve data validation/QC/QA for reporting, technical recommendations for data management, and statistical analysis for future public policy goals of the program. The incumbent in this position will gain the skills sought to include a competency in a statistical analysis program, an ability to interpret data, and experience with spreadsheet and graphics program for publications, presentations, or reports. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: Possession of a master's degree from an accredited university with a minimum of nine semester hours, or the equivalent, of graduate coursework in research methodology, theoretical or applied statistics or measurement theory. Experience: None. Note: Candidates may substitute US Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Statistician classifications or Statistician and Intelligence Officer specialty codes in the Statistics field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education. DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS It is preferred that the selected candidate has experience in one of the following: Environmental research, including design and data collection;Large datasets with stochastic variables;Statistical analysis in a research or applied setting;Interpretation and formal presentation of data.
