ControllerJob descriptionThe Controller is a newly created and vitally important position at Great Minds, a rapidly growing non-profit organization developing world-class curricula for grades PK-12. Our mission is to ensure all students have access to a quality education in the full range of liberal arts and sciences.The Controller, a position that reports to the Director of Finance, utilize their prior hands-on accounting experience and will have an in-depth understanding of accounting principles and company practices. The Controller will perform complex accounting activities and financial analyses.Responsibilities:Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and proceduresOversee the operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department's goals and objectivesPerforming variance analyses and preparing account reconciliations * Process third party payroll and state tax and unemployment filingsReviewing journal entries of junior accountants to ensure accuracyAnalyzing complex financial reports and recordsMaking recommendations based on analysis and status of reserves, assets and expendituresAssisting with financial and tax auditsDocumenting and monitoring internal controls in support of accounting teamCoordinating more complex accounting projects and initiatives with other members of the accounting and finance team or with other departmentsTraining and mentoring junior staffUtilizes computerized Microsoft software programs (Excel, Outlook, and Word) to perform duties and responsibilities. RequirementsAt least 8-12 years of experience in for G/L entries, customer invoicing, cash receipts applications, collections and customer statement generation.4-year degree majoring in Accounting.Recent hands-on experience in third party payroll and state tax and unemployment filingsBasic knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).Current work experience with financial and accounting systems (QuickBooks, NetSuite, Intacct or similar applications).Strong attention to detail, proficient at establishing priorities and meeting deadlinesCapability to work in fast-paced environment, with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands.High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations.Ability to work in a positive and cooperative manner with fellow team members.Professional, punctual, dependable, reliable, with a desire to learn.
