Refer Save Apply Job ID: KTC-20387 Description: The Medical Director, Pathways is responsible for all aspects of medical care administered to Pathways patients while being treated at Pathways for substance abuse and psychiatric services. Admits and discharges residents and develops or approves all medical protocols required by the facility. Recommends innovative medical program development and implements where applicable, reasonable and clinically sound. The Medical Director performs functions that are clinically privileged.Medical Director responsibilities:Assists the management team in program development.Supervises all aspects of medical and psychiatric patient care.Serves as Pathways-community liaison.Ensures the provision of the medical components of quality assurance, quality management and utilization review.Supervises the physician assistant staff.Provides direct medical and psychiatric services to adolescents and adults at all levels of care within theTreatment Center.Assists with business development activities including but not limited to the enhancement of existing managed care and other third party payor contracts.Participates in monthly board meetings and provide expertise, information, and strategic planning to the Pathways Administrative Team and Pathways Board of Directors.Medical and Psychiatric responsibilities:Supervises and writes orders for all medical procedures and prescribes medical referrals where indicated. Supervises the administration of all medication protocols.Develops coordinates and monitors (with nursing and other appropriate departments) medical procedures in the facility programs including recommended orders, areas of medical responsibility, screening techniques and provision for referral consultants.Makes appropriate medical decisions for any medical emergencies which arise and makes proper referral or transfer to other facilities for medical care which cannot be provided at the facility.Serves as final medical authority on all patient admission and discharge actionsWorks with appropriate staff to ensure that all documentation regarding resident care, treatment and incidents is done in a clear, concise and timely manner.Provides appropriate documentation of patients progress and problems that may be encountered.Dictates a medical discharge summary within 30 days of patient discharge and complies with all medical record requirements.Participates as a team member in multi-disciplinary treatment team meetings and participates in treatment planning process, approves all treatment plans and supervises its implementation.Supervises completion of a physical examination and medical history of all residents upon admission, properly documented in the residents record within 24 hours of admission.Provides the on call and weekend rotation services either on site or via beeper/phone, with coverage at night and on weekends and holidays observed by the facility provided through a rotation on-call basis.Required Minimum Education: Degree in medicine from an accredited medical school.Required Minimum Experience: Five years experience in the practice of medicine or post-graduate residency program in a recognized approved AMA accredited specialty. Minimum of three years experience in chemical dependency programming/treatment experience.Required Licenses/Certifications: Current and unrestricted license to practice medicine in Maryland, or eligible. Board certification or ASAM certification.
