GCS is seeking a Systems Administrator to support the research and development of novel solutions to challenging problems in the fields of network analysis, network intrusion detection, and network intrusion prevention. The job location is Adelphi Laboratory Center (ALC) near Beltsville, MD.The System Administrator will: Provide support for the dispatch system and hardware problems Configure and manages Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), MAC OS, and Windows operating systems and installs/loads softwareTroubleshoot, maintain integrity, and configures network components along with implementing operating systems enhancements to improve reliability and performance. Provide specific detailed information for hardware and software selection, implementation techniques and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs; including present and future capacity requirementsMaintain technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing; such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc. Evaluate and reports on new communications technologies to enhance capabilities of the network Support and provide Tier 1 (Help Desk) and Tier 2 (Escalation) problem identification, diagnosis, and resolution of problems Provide support for the escalation and communication of status to customer management and external stakeholdersThe Army Research Laboratory regularly incorporates new network science research programs. While this is a challenge, it is also interesting work and rarely requires overtime or weekend work, with exceptions for supporting demos. The ideal candidate is a person with network/cybersecurity administration experience and willing to learn Hadoop.Required Skills: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experienceMust have an active DoD Secret clearanceMust have at least a CompTia Sec+ certificationMust be able to obtain Linux certification within 6 months of hireMust have at least (4) six years of professional IT experienceTwo (2) or more years of system administration experience Must have experience with building Demilitarized Zones (DMZs) and applying subnets to networksMust have experience with network security designMust have experience in segmenting networks and allocating IP addressesDemonstrated experience in installing, configuring, and maintaining Red Hat Enterprise Linux virtualized hostsDemonstrated experience in cloud computing environmentsDemonstrated experience and/or familiarity with provisioning and maintaining cloud clustersDemonstrated experience and/or familiarity with one of more of the following: networking protocols and applications (eg, DNS, TCP/IP stack, sockets, console, license, NFS, SAMBA, and back-up, SAN and mail servers)Managed the functionality and efficiency of a group of systems running one or more operating systemsPerformed regular maintenance and troubleshooting on systemMaintained the integrity and security of IT systemsPrepared and maintained system and process documentationPreferred Skills:Demonstrated experience and/or familiarity with Hadoop ecosystem and its tools (eg Pig, Spark, Storm)Demonstrated experience in installing, configuring, and maintaining a Hadoop clusterInstalling new software applications and adding new users to a Hadoop environmentDemonstrated experience and/or familiarity with monitoring Hadoop cluster performance, add or remove nodes, configure high availability, tracking jobs, and take back-ups.
