Refer Save Apply Job ID: JAE-01286 Description: Provides care to patients and families in a developmentally, culturally, and ethically appropriate manner.Maintains a safe environment for the patient and the OR team by assuring a sterile environment, using equipment according to operating room manual.Transports patients and specialty equipment in accordance with safety policy.Provides patient care during the intra-operative phase of the surgery using physician preference cards and organizing and prioritizing care activities based on the patient and/or environmental changes.Functions as a first scrub in the following types of cases (including but not limited to): general/GYN, ENT, plastics, basic/minor ortho/neuro, dental/ortho, urology/cysto and basic vascular procedures.Participates in Shared Governance according to departmental standards.Performs the following surgical skills independently: Opening surgical supplies, gowning and gloving all members of the surgical team, basic positioning of the patient, between case cleaning, terminal cleaning of the ORs and surgical suite, performs circulating skills and tasks as directed.Demonstrates proper care of instrumentation including cleaning and sterilizatoin of surgical equipment.Demonstrated the ability to problem solve in relation to the procedure being performed.Demonstrates knowledge and practice of patient care concepts.Participates in orientation and training program to attain competency in more complex surgical procedures. Attends community/hospital based professional classes to advance skill etc.Performs point of care testing in accordance with AAMC policy and procedures.Participates in patient care data collection and unit specific treatments as directed by the nurse and in accordance with established standards, policies and procedures (ie phelebotmy, ECG, VS, etc).Processes written medical staff orders in accordance with established policies and procedures. Communicates STS or urgent orders to the care provider.Maintains adequate levels of supplies and equipment both in the OR and on the unit, department or initiative. Required Minimum Experience/Qualifications: Graduate from an accredited surgical technologist program or its equivalent. Completed a minimum of 125 surgical procedures in the role as first scrub. Employed for a minimum of 6 months at AAMC and has a minimum of 3 years of surgical technology experience. Strong clinical, technical, interpersonal and organizational skills are necessary.Required Certification: American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLSRequired Education: High School Diploma or GEDPreferred Education: Associates DegreePreferred Qualifications: Surgical Technologist certification.Physical Requirements: Very heavy work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.If serving as a bilingual/multilingual interpreter, certification in Medical Interpretation is required to perform the duties of a qualified interpreter.
