Staff Accountant Squash on Fire is igniting squash in Washington, DC with the construction of a world-class high-end squash facility that will be open to all. Centrally located in NW Washington, DC (West End) near Georgetown and is easily accessible. With programs designed by award-winning coaches, Squash on Fire is designed from the ground up to be unlike any other squash facility in the DC area. We are seeking an experienced, hands-on staff accountant/bookkeeper for a newly-formed athletic facility that includes eight indoor courts, a pro shop, and full service food and beverage/bar operations.This role is contractor-based (ie 1099) with potential to convert to employee-based over time. The initial start-up operations require 30-35 hours/week staff accountant support, although it is likely that 25-30 hours/week support will be sufficient once operations stabilize. This role offers schedule and location flexibility, allowing for flex-time and partial work from home, depending upon candidate experience and preference.Summary DescriptionThe staff accountant performs all accounting-related activities including maintaining the general ledger, managing cash, tracking/processing receipts and disbursements, processing payroll, ensuring compliance with tax (eg sales/use) reporting requirements, and financial statement preparation/reporting, among other duties.This position reports to the Group CFO.Duties and ResponsibilitiesCoordinate processing of all accounting-related transactions for both the athletic operations and food/beverage operations.Prepare and record asset, liability, revenue, and expense entries based on business activity.Manage month-end close processes; prepare financial statements and related reports.Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local filing requirements (eg sales/use, ABRA, etc.)Maintain a documented system of accounting records; establish and document accounting-related procedures that safeguard assets and support efficient operations.Other duties as assigned.Experience3-5 years of accounting experience; accounting degree strongly preferredFood and beverage experience strongly preferred; retail and/or health club experience preferredExperience with the following applications a plus - QuickBooks, Vend (POS/bar code management), Vantiv (or similar payment processing)Familiarity with ADP and/or Kelly payroll processing systems a plusEqual Employment OpportunityAll employment decisions are made without regard to race, age, creed, sex, religion, national origin, ancestry, disability status, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, genetic information, marital status, citizenship status, or any other basis as is protected by local, state or federal law.
