The Accountant has a working knowledge of government contracting and grant administration rules and regulations as they pertain to accounting billing and indirect cost allocations. The position is also responsible for applying generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and having an understanding of 2 CFR 200.Purpose and Mission* Produces and delivers monthly consolidated financial statements and related documents to the Accounting Manager and monthly departmental financial statements for specific departments to internal management.* Analyzes monthly financial activity, reviews general ledger accounts to ensure proper classification and recording of financial transactions in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles ("GAAP"), and takes any necessary corrective action. Corrective actions include proposing of reclassification entries and recurring adjustments.* Analyzes monthly financial results in comparison to established budget and investigates any significant variances. Performs in-depth variance analysis and account and project reconciliations. * Reviews and prepares local field office cost adjustments for upload into QuickBooks and Oracle Projects to support the accounting, budgeting and business compliance requirements.* Ensures the correct application of revenue recognition and project billing to ensure compliance with grants and contracts.* Assists in tax and compliance reporting (ie 990, Fin CEN 114, personal property, etc.) activities required for client departments. * Prepares annual and other periodic, federal and state tax for NRECA and specific subsidiaries, personal property tax filings, and other compliance filings.* Assists business managers with preparation of annual budget and prepares budget reporting to ensure compliance with grants and contract terms.* Develops strong working relationships with business management and staff. Responds to financial questions from business managers. * Responds to external audit requests by researching, compiling and presenting needed information to auditors.* Performs other duties and special projects, as requested.Requirements and Qualifications-Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a relevant field with certificate in accounting. CPA or CMA preferred.-2+ years of progressive accounting experience. Preference is given to candidates with a combination of public accounting and government contracting experience.1. Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and their application as demonstrated by prior work experience.2. Ability to manage competing deadlines and multiple projects at various stages of development using effective organization skills and attention to detail as demonstrated by prior work experience. 3. Ability to be persuasive, negotiate, and collaborate with individuals at all levels throughout organization.4. Ability to organize and manage time, multi-task, operate under pressure and prioritize projects using effective organization skills as demonstrated by prior work experience.5. Ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, with a diverse membership and employees in a clear and precise manner as demonstrated by prior work experience.6. Ability to use Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, Power Point) in the day-to-day essential duties of the job as demonstrated by prior work experience.7. Ability to perform mathematical calculations (addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, percentages) for payment distributions as demonstrated by prior work experience.8. Ability to define issues, establish facts and draw valid conclusions and apply to work environment as demonstrated by prior work experience.9. Ability to operate various office equipment such as personal computer, copier, printer, fax machine or other job related equipment as demonstrated by prior work experience. 10. Ability to identify opportunities for improvement and make constructive suggestions for change as demonstrate by prior work experience. 11. Ability to work with a wide variety of people to foster cooperation in sharing information and materials as demonstrated by prior work experience. ADA Requirements: * The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading. * Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.
