A' GRADE 15 LOCATION OF POSITION Maryland Department of the Environment Land ManagementA' Administration Solid Waste Program/Construction & Maintenance Section 1800 Washington Blvd. A' Baltimore, MD 21230 Main Purpose Of Job The Regulatory and Compliance Engineer I is an entry level position within the Land Management Administration. The incumbent in this position will lean to be responsible for the permitting of solid waste landfills, including coal combustion by-product landfills, groundwater discharge permits for rubble landfills in the State and the review and evaluation of the scientific information and regulatory documentation needed to support the applications. The incumbent will also learn toA' evaluate geotechnical investigations, well constructions, investigate proposed landfill sites, and provide advice to local counties concerning existing landfill design problems and water pollution problems related to the solid waste acceptance facilities. The incumbent will review and comment on closure and post closure plans for closed landfills, provides oversight of contractor activities during landfill construction, and reviews financial assurance documents from local counties. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education:A' Bachelor's degree in engineering or architecture from an accredited college or university. Experience:A' None Notes: 1. A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with at least 20 credits in engineering and two years performing engineering or architectural work in pollution control, waste remediation, resource conservation, environmental protection, public health and safety, or related areas may be substituted for the engineering degree. A' 2. Professional Engineer or Professional Architect registration in the State of Maryland or in a state with comparable requirements may be substituted for the education requirement. 3. Candidates may substitute US Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Engineering and Architecture classifications or Engineering and Architecture specialty codes in the Environmental field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
