This software engineer will support multiple development teams within a large scale data warehouse environment that integrates relational databases (Teradata) and a semi-structured distributed file system (Hadoop). In collaboration with systems administrators, external development teams, and government stakeholders, this position is responsible for rapid prototyping, debugging, design reviews, performance tuning, and software product evaluation.

The successful candidate will:
• Build consensus among customer and 3rd party contractor technical resources
• Engage with customer’s technical architecture review board to answer questions and evaluate alternative solutions
• Support multiple concurrent projects that contribute achievable, measurable, incremental progress toward long term goals.
• Define metrics and dashboards to monitor progress against strategic objectives.
• Communicate complex ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing/diagrams.
• Support formalized analysis of alternatives.
• Support development of detailed level-of-effort estimates.
• Work with product vendors to conduct evaluations, understand product roadmaps, and prototype potential business use cases.

Education Bachelor’s Degree in a related discipline

Masters degree, or equivalent work experience, preferred

Qualifications Requires 10+ years of relevant experience

 

    Demonstrated expertise in Medicare data and related business domain knowledge10 years’ experience working as an IT contractor for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services5 years’ experience developing and debugging Data Manipulation Language (DML) scripts in Teradata5 years’ experience developing and debugging COBOL, DB2, and other mainframe utilities for data transfer3 years’ experience writing and debugging Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) jobs for Medicare data using Informatica2 years’ experience working hands-on with Hadoop ecosystemCurrently holds Cloudera Certified Developer for Apache HadoopExperience with Data Visualization, analytic, and reporting tools (e.g., MicroStrategy, SAS)
