Fundraising Strategy Officer
The National Gallery of Art serves the United States in a national role by preserving, collecting, exhibiting, and fostering the understanding of works of art at the highest possible museum and scholarly standards. Gallery activities are funded, in part, through an ongoing fundraising campaign, which is led and carried out by a high-performing development team. This position is responsible for eliciting major philanthropic gifts from the private sector to meet the priority needs of the Gallery as identified by the Director and the Board of Trustees. The incumbent reports to the Chief Development Officer.

All applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience. Specialized experience is directly related to the duties and responsibilities of this position, referenced in the technical qualifications, that equipped the candidate with the scope and level of knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work. This level of responsibility is typically found at the GS-15 or equivalent level in the Federal Government. Eligibility will be based upon a clear showing that the applicant has had professional training and experience of the scope, level and quality sufficient to carry out the responsibilities of the position effectively. You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements for the position by the closing date of the announcement.
For this position, specialized experience is at least one year of experience, equivalent in responsibility to the GS-15 level in the Federal service, raising funds for a fine arts institution.
Other Relevant Eligibility Criteria: Must be available for periodic weekend duty. Must be available for U.S. and European travel, up to 7 days per trip (10% time).

MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS (MQs): Address each of the following MQ's separately. - Describe your ability to (a) lead and (b) perform data analysis for a specified topic. Take into account your experience with data recording, reporting, collection, and processing functions; and data outputs and analyses that deliver necessary information to support program planning and management. Note the software applications you have used to carry out and present your analyses, and the ways you have presented it – both in person and virtually.
- Describe your skill in identifying, cultivating, and soliciting prospects within a giving program. Elaborate on your leadership role, if any, in identifying local and national prospects for major gifts. Did you oversee the gift tracking and acknowledgment process for major gifts – and if so, how? Did you engage in special cultivation efforts for targeted donors? How have you identified prospects for membership and how have you implemented strategies to upgrade members to higher giving levels? Include in your response how you used volunteers and subordinate staff in your approach. Also call out any efforts which supported a fine arts beneficiary, if any. What were the results, on a typical annual basis, of your efforts?
- Describe your skill in setting short- and long-term goals for yourself and others. How have you ensured that the activities of a team are well-integrated with those of other teams? How have you planned a year or more ahead of time, and then delivered on that plan? Address the way and frequency with which you have collaborated with others to achieve something bigger than one person can achieve. Elaborate on methods and outcomes related to generating new ideas for opportunities and initiatives to advance an employer’s goals. Has professional development and education factored into the way you lead others – how do you keep up to date on the latest information in your field? Describe the way you supervise and mentor others, including the full range of hiring, supervising and terminating as circumstances warrant.
- Describe your knowledge of the Raiser’s Edge software application. In your answer, address how you have used the software in your work activities. How many donors did you manage at one time using the software? How many prospects? Did you function as senior user of it, while guiding others, or just as an individual user – describe how. Address whether you used it daily or otherwise, and for how long. Also describe what functions you used within the software application.

Physical Requirements: The majority of this work is done at a computer station during normal office hours. moderate physical mobility is required, which includes walking, lifting, stretching, stooping, and standing. The incumbent frequently walks to other offices in the National Gallery's East and West Buildings, carrying papers, books and files. The incumbent must be able to lift books, files, and boxes weighing up to twenty pounds.
