Position/Posting Details:

Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate. Must satisfactorily pass all Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) required tests and WMATA certification tests.

Some knowledge of and have performed satisfactory the duties of a Paint/Body Mechanic or related field for a period of not less than two (2) years. Must have one (1) ASE Collision Repair and Refinish certification of 82, 83 or 84. ICAR certifications for Collision Repair and Refinish acceptable for this grade only.

License:

Valid Commercial Drivers Learner's Permit from jurisdiction of residence is required prior to appointment with proper Passenger and Air Brakes endorsements. Must acquire a valid Commercial Driver's License with Passenger and Air Brakes endorsements by the completion of training.

Job Summary/Duties:

This highly skilled work involving accident, body repair, painting and finishing work to include panel replacement, body alignment, straightening, filling, application of decals and preparation for paint on the Authority's vehicles. Employee has considerable latitude for independent judgment and action within established guidelines. Employee completes assignments without close and continuing supervision, and contributes to the solution of new problems. Employee reports to the Lead Mechanic or Shift Supervisor. Lead Mechanic or Shift Supervisor reviews work through spot checks and occasional checking of results.

Performs assigned basic vehicle body/paint repair work on WMATA vehicles.

Gains familiarity with and develops skills in the operation and body/paint repair of WMATA vehicles.

Receives instruction and close supervision on new assignments, while regular assignments are performed independently.

Lead Mechanic or Shift Supervisor review work and verifies upon completion to check progress and conformance to established policies and requirements.
