Role Summary/Purpose: The sales tax analyst is primarily responsible for preparing and filing US state and local sales tax returns and ensuring compliance with sales tax laws. The analyst will also provide technical expertise as a member of the sales tax team in connection with US sales tax research, compliance, and audit processes related to the fleet leasing business segment. The analyst works in a collaborative work environment with other tax professionals, controllership, IT, customer support representatives, and business representatives from risk, legal, and operations to ensure tax compliance.Essential Responsibilities:Accurately prepare/file sales & use tax returns for state & local tax jurisdictions by the deadlineMake timely payments of sales tax liabilities to the appropriate jurisdictionReview tax processes and identify opportunities for simplificationReconcile GL tax accountsReconcile tax payments on a regular basisTimely payments of sales tax liabilities to the appropriate stateValidate exemption certificates received from lessees Respond to questions about the proper sales tax treatment of transactionsExtract tax information from various billing systems and summarize and analyze the same for tax compliance opportunities Review and analyze tax law changes, update internal tax matrices, and coordinate with IT to make programming changes to tax software logic Provide jurisdictional audit and refund claim defense as requiredQualifications/Requirements:Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance1-3 years of sales tax experienceStrong written and verbal communication skillsProficient use of Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word & PowerPoint)Must be willing to work in Sparks, Maryland or Eden Prairie, MinnesotaMust be willing to travel up to 10% of the time
