Adjunct - Sociology (MA)
The Sociology Department at the Manassas Campus is seeking qualified Sociologists to teach a variety of classes. The candidate must be able to work Tuesdays, Thursdays and possibly Saturdays. The primary responsibility of a faculty member in the Virginia Community College System shall be to provide quality instruction for the students. The major emphasis shall be on good teaching by working with students in classrooms, individual conferences, and related activities-to help the student develop their interests and abilities to their fullest capacity to become a better person, a better worker, and a better citizen.Duties and ResponsibilitiesAdjunct faculty are required to meet assigned classes regularly; submit required grade records and reports routinely; teach the prescribed courses of study with the established texts; hold required office hours; attend assigned divisional and college meetings; and contribute to the development of the program of instruction. Adjunct faculty are employed to teach up to 12 credit hours in the fall and spring semester and/or up to 8 credit hours during summer session. Teaching load is based upon student enrollment and staffing needs. Instruction may be during the day, evening, or weekend. Compensation is per credit hour and based upon rank. The adjunct faculty appointment contains no guarantee of continued employment.Minimum qualifications plus some teaching experience, particularly in a college setting, and/or relevant work experience.
