Staff Accountant III

This position will provide experienced accounting and financial support within the accounting department and report directly to Octo's Accounting Manager. The work will include development and support of strategic program guidelines, coordination of day-to-day accounting and financial activities, and perform a full range of moderately complex accounting activitiesDuties and Responsibilities:Coordinate and perform day-to-day accounting activities including Labor Distribution (Revenue/Direct Cost) and General Ledger tasks as well as subledger AR/Invoicing and AP duties. Perform the full range of moderately complex accounting and financial activities, journal entries, reconciliations, analysis, and accruals.Evaluation and completion of financial analyses and reporting that include but are not limited to revenue, time and expense, cost data, billing and invoicing, AP, Payroll, financial statements, trend reports, and system analytics. This position will work with the Accounting Manager and Controller to manage accounting transactions and to ensure data integrity is maintained.Support of ERP system - Microsoft Dynamics SL (Accounting and Reporting) and Unanet (Time, Expense and End User Project Management).Provide technical financial recommendations, guidance, and instruction to accounting staff from time to time. Identifies and assists in the resolution of moderately complex accounting and financial analyses.Liaison and work with other service center departments including HR, Contracts, Finance and IT, as well front line Program Manager and Portfolio Managers to complete and support various financial, AR and accounting tasks and projects.Perform certain balance sheet and Profit and Loss statement reconciliations and ensure the integrity of financial records.Reviews and actively participate in refinement of accounting and financial processes and procedures. Identify and implement changes to gain efficiencies.Analyze and reconcile certain General Ledger accounts. Identify, reconcile and resolve all complex discrepancies.Gather and analyze financial data from ERP system for special projects. Create and present reports to Accounting Manager, Sr. Finance Manager, Controller, and CFO.This is a full-time position with an excellent benefits and compensation package.Minimum Experience:Minimum of 3 years progressively responsible professional accounting experience requiredMinimum of 2 years' accounting experience in a federal government contracting accounting environmentKnowledge and experience working with different Contract types FFP, T&M, Cost Plus.Knowledge and experience working with Time and Expense systems and processes Preferred Experience:CPA preferred but not requiredMBA is a plusBigc4 experience is a plusExperience with MS Dynamics SL ERP System, or other large Project based government contracting focused accounting system like Deltek Costpoint.Unanet Experience preferredStrong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and some experience with Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR).Strong analytical skills and understanding of accounting concepts relevant to the Federal Government Contracting industry.Experience conducting reconciliations for BS and P&L accounts and financial statementsSkills/Personal Qualities:Customer service oriented; must be detail-orientedExcellent time management, scheduling, and organizational skillsExcellent oral and written communication skills; build trusted partnership with internal and external customersProficient in Microsoft Office, strong Excel (pivots and logical), PowerPoint and WordAbility to work in an extremely fast-paced, dynamic environmentFlexible and adaptable to changing environmentAbility to interface with all levels of managementAbility to work well independently or in a team settingEducation:Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting, or Finance Security Clearance: NoneLocation:Reston, VAPhysical Requirements:Regularly required to sit for extended periods up to 80% of the time; frequently required to move about to access file cabinets and use office equipment such as PC, copier, fax, telephone, cell phone, etc.Occasionally required to reach overhead, bend, and lift objects of up to 10 lbs.Specific vision abilities required by this job include use of computer monitor screens up to 80% of time Work Environment:Individual's primary workstation is located in an office areaThe noise level in this environment is low to moderateOur team is what makes Octo great.
