Koniag Technology Solutions (KTS) is hiring a Facilities Support Engineer (Electrical) to join our team. This is a direct, full-time position with our company working at our client's site in Urbana MD. The hours are Tuesday-Friday, 3:30p-2a, to include a 1/2-hr. nonbillable meal break.The Facilities Support Engineer (Electrical) will provide contractor support for the facilities management of the client's raised-floor computer room environments. This support will assist the client in developing and implementing facilities for both mainframe and open systems. Duties include site preparation for hardware installations, de-installations, upgrades, configuration changes and modifications in support of the activities related to client projects--ODAR, Riser Panel, VOIP and the Data Center. The Facilities Support Engineer (Electrical) position is considered Essential/Mission Critical, which means that the employee is expected to report for, or remain at work, even in inclement weather conditions. Employees who are designated Essential/Mission Critical are expected to report to work on time and/or stay at work despite late reporting, early dismissal or closure due to weather conditions. During inclement weather conditions, Essential/Mission Critical employees are not to leave the job site unless dismissed by a member of Team KTS management or the employee's designated point of contact. We offer a competitive compensation and benefits package including health, dental, vision, 401K, flexible spending accounts, paid holidays, and a PTO program.Must be able to obtain and maintain a client-sponsored HSPD-12 SuitabilityEssential Functions, Responsibilities & Duties may include, but are not limited to:Provide assistance and support for the client's existing raised-floor computer in the Data Center locations, including:Develop project schedules and planning documentsCoordinate vendorsProvide on-site assistance in site planning and equipment installationVerify newly installed power circuits and other site modifications.Support unforeseen projects and new developments in hardware/software that may impact the Computer Facilities and Environmental Branch's ability to meet and satisfy demands. Contractor support is required on all three shifts. A significant percentage of the work must be accomplished during off-hours to ensure minimal, if any, network disruption.Due to the large number of equipment installations and projected incoming equipment, the Facilities Support Engineer must be able to perform the duties described herein with minimal supervision. He/she will work closely with the client Activity Manager in order to produce deliverables defined in the sub-activities.Provide on-site inspection of the following:Electrical service (including panel loads, outlets, power requirements and grounding requirements)Uninterruptible Power SuppliesHVAC requirements, including humidity levels and supplemental requirements for equipment, security and fire detection systemsPrepare electrical service requirementsPrepare the following guidelines:Power requirements and availabilityHVAC requirements and availabilitySpace requirements, including optimum configurations and layout and guidelines for determining cable requirements and lengthsHeavy emphasis on electrical aspect of IT hardware installation (maintaining panel schedules, monitoring electrical usage, identifying imbalanced power phases, connecting/disconnecting IT hardware to available power) and identifying power requirements for new projects on an as-needed basis.Education, Experience and Skills 3 years' experience in a Data Center environment as a facilities engineer (or in an electrical support role)Knowledge of telecommunication links and modes of data transmission, including all cable configurationsProven ability to manufacture various cables on short notice utilizing provided suppliesExpertise in the following (with the primary emphasis on safety):Installation of servers, routers, switches, etc., along with all associated hardwareInstallation of cablesInstallation and housing of equipment in cabinetsMust possess thorough understanding of the setup and workings of a multi-platform environment, including knowledge of all types of mainframe equipment, ie Z9 processors, different types of DASD and vendors, tape drives, T10k silos, etc.Must possess thorough understanding of power requirements and connectivity of the equipment via FICON directors, ESCON, Fiber, bus and tagProven ability to effectively utilize tools, including mechanical (hand tools, drills, etc.) and electronic (meters, oscilloscopes, etc.) to perform assigned functions. (The duties frequently require lifting or manipulating up to 100 pounds.)Working Environment & ConditionsThis position is primarily indoors, consistent with a standard office position and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. The incumbent is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The work load may require the incumbent to sit for extended periods of time. The incumbent must be able to read, perform simple math calculations and withstand moderate amounts of stress. The incumbent may be required to lift and/or move up to 100 lbs., with or without the assistance of mechanical lifts.
