Job DescriptionSummary- Theposition is responsible for performing routine maintenance and a variety of repairson vehicles. The position is crucial to the safe and productive operation ofthe fleet.Qualifications - Must have a minimum of one year experience withair brake systems, diesel engines, hydraulics. CDL License preferred.Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesinclude the following. Other duties may beassigned.Job Duties: Performs repairs and maintenance on front-end loader, roll off, and other vehicles to maximize safe and productive operations. Typical repairs include, but are not limited to, routine maintenance and repairing engines, chassis and body components, hydraulic cylinders, brake systems, suspension systems, wheels, and tires. Road tests vehicles to troubleshoot problems and/or test repairs and safe completion. Reads and interprets DVIR's (Driver Vehicle Information Reports) and/or repair orders, communicates with supervisor and/or driver for clarification of problems. May discuss preventive techniques with drivers to minimize future repairs. Makes emergency road calls to make repairs on trucks that break down while driving a collection route. Methods, Procedures, Equipment, Materials: Uses a large array of hand and power tools. Pushes or pulls large tool box weighing up to 1,000 lbs. as needed. Uses impact wrenches weighing from 15-50 lbs. May carry parts and tools distances up to 50 yards. Cleans parts and tools with chemical solvents. Supplies own set of basic tools as is standard for mechanics. Completes written repair orders to document repairs. Drives vehicle to troubleshoot problems or assess effectiveness of repairs. Makes adjustments as necessary. Inspects visually and/or listens for problems. Feels unusual vibration or suspension and/or tire problems. Reads reports, discusses, demonstrates, and completes forms as needed. Drives service truck to location where company trucks need service. Performs repairs as described in duty #1 (above). Advises supervisor on whether the repair was complete or partial. Work Schedule: 10 hour shifts with a rotating Saturday required. Skills, Abilities, Knowledge:Must be knowledgeable ofand capable of performing repairs in an efficient, effective and timely manner.Must be able to communicate effectively, read, estimate, calculate, interpret,measure and document in writing. Able to sustain a steady work pace over anentire work day. Able to tolerate confined spaces for extended periods of time. Must be knowledgeable of and capable of performing repairs in an efficient, effective and timely manner. Must be able to communicate effectively, read, estimate, calculate, interpret, measure and document in writing. Class A or B CDL Able to safely drive the service truck to perform repairs. Physical Requirements: Visually inspects vehicles and parts; adequate hearing. Dexterity for handling small parts and tools in tight spaces. Sufficient strength for handling larger parts and tools. Pushing, pulling, and reaching above/at/below shoulder. Standing, stooping, crouching, bending, walking, crawling, kneeling, carrying/lifting 10-100 lbs. Able to work utilizing safety glasses, steel-toed work shoes, uniform, hearing protection (PPE). Same as above, plus driving, climbing steps and ladders. Must have a valid DOT medical card. Reading, writing, communicating. Visually inspects vehicles and parts; adequate hearing. Dexterity for handling small parts and tools in tight spaces. Sufficient strength for handling larger parts and tools. Pushing, pulling, and reaching above/at/below shoulder. Standing, walking, bending, crawling, kneeling, carrying/lifting 10-100 lbs. Able to work utilizing safety glasses, steel-toed work shoes, uniform, hearing protections (PPE). Output,Productivity: Performs this duty daily, up to 100% of 8-hour shift. Regular overtime. Daily, 10-15% of 8-hour shift. Daily, percentage varies with workload. Varies as trucks need emergency service. WorkingConditions:Works indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions. May be on a day, evening,or night shift.
