Media Assistant - Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences
The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) is the National Academy of Science's official peer-reviewed journal of original scientific research. Since the journal's establishment in 1914, it publishes cutting-edge research reports, commentaries, reviews, perspectives, colloquium papers, and actions of the Academy. Coverage in PNAS spans the biological, physical, and social sciences.
The Media Assistant provides support for ongoing, daily activities of the PNAS Communications Office by assisting in the development of media dissemination for both lay and scientific audiences and by serving as a liaison to the media, journal authors, freelancers, and other departments within PNAS and the NAS. The Media Assistant cultivates an active social media presence for PNAS on Facebook and Twitter, maintains HTML and image files for communications Web sites, serves as a point of contact for press-related inquiries, assists with news monitoring and database management, schedules press articles for publication, and performs other duties as necessary.
Qualified candidates should have three years of related experience. Candidates must have a demonstrated ability to work under tight deadlines, pay close attention to detail, and interact professionally in person, over the phone, and via e-mail. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, the Internet, Adobe Dreamweaver, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Audition is preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to solve problems of some variety and complexity. Ability to operate using some latitude for independent judgment and action. Ability to work successfully in a team environment and to form and maintain effective teams. Ability to develop relationships with co-workers and employees in other National Academies’ departments through effective communication. Excellent written and verbal skills with a proven ability to effectively interact with all levels of employees.
