This recruitment is open to anyone who meets the preferredqualifications listed below. This position is Executive Service(the incumbent serves at the will of the appointing authority). NATURE OF WORK: The Maryland Department of TransportationState Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) Office of Information Technologyprovides strategic direction and coordination of information technologyresources within MDOT SHA. This includes soliciting and prioritizing systemdevelopment activities; performing technology research and planning;establishing and managing the short-range and long-range plan and budget tosupport the growth of information technology within SHA; planning, acquiringand implementing large-scale business systems; acquiring, developing andsupporting web-based applications and the MDOT SHA Website; acquiring,deploying and maintaining Office Automation, CADD, and GIS hardware andsoftware; planning, installing and supporting the local and wide area networksupon which all MDOT SHA systems, including the CHART operation, depend; andproviding day-to-day computer operations support. This Office services acustomer base of approximately 3,000 SHA employees, as well as providingmanagement and direction to MDOT-wide information technology initiatives.QUALIFICATIONS:PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:EDUCATION: ABachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.EXPERIENCE: Eight (8) years ofmanagement or supervisory experience in information technology involving atleast two of the following areas: planning, systems analysis, computerprogramming, or operations. NOTES: Applicants may substitute graduate education in computer science or indirectly related fields on a year-for-year basis for up to two years of therequired experience.Applicants may substitute additional management or supervisory experience asdefined above at the rate of six months of experience for one year ofeducation for the required college education.
