JOB SUMMARY:Supervises and participates in the day-to-day operations of the Store and warehouse ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures; ensures the accountability and security of cashier funds; maintains the neatness and attractiveness of store merchandise ensuring that displays remain well-stocked; assists customer in locating items and prices and explains store policy; assists employees in resolving routine problems and performing special assignments.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: This job description should not be interpreted as all-inclusive. The incumbents may be requested to perform job-related responsibilities and tasks other than those stated in this job description.Directly responsible for supervising the day-to-day operations of the Store and warehouse area; trains and instructs employees in the proper methods and procedures; monitors work in progress and upon completion to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established policies and procedures.Provides input which is a determining factor in employees that are hired, terminated, provided compensation adjustments, promotions, disciplinary actions and is responsible for evaluating employees under his/her authority.Supervises and participates in the cashier activities ensuring that all customers are treated in a polite and friendly manner; assists Store Clerks in ringing up, recording, and receipting sales; assists Store Clerks in resolving problems; ensures the security and accountability of the cashier funds; assists in preparing daily sales reports and bank deposits.Assists customers in locating items and prices; assists customers donating items; explains store policy and ensures compliance with the same.Supervises and participates in maintaining the store displays; arranges, rotates, and re-stocks displayed items to ensure the displays remain in a plentiful, neat and orderly manner for customer convenience and store attractiveness.Determines appropriate prices for merchandise ensuring quick turnover of stock while also bringing a fair and reasonable price for The Salvation Army; detects merchandise that is not moving and reduces prices accordingly.Supervises the unloading of incoming donations in the warehouse; ensures that items are properly sorted, stocked, and/or discarded in accordance with established policies and procedures; inspects appliances and furniture for needed repairs; supervises and assists in performing repair work; supervises and assists in bailing clothes.Prepares, maintains files and various store reports, records, forms and other similar documents including community service records; ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same.Maintains a positive working atmosphere by acting and communicating in a professinal manner that will establish and promote a professional working relationship with vendors, donors, customers, beneficiaries, co-workers and management.OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:Perform other job-related responsibilities and tasks (other than those stated in this job description) when directed by senior management.MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT USED:Cash Register Bailer Price Gun Calculator Hand Held ToolsCleaning Products Telephone General Office EquipmentMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:High School diploma or GED preferred and minimum two years work experience in a retail store preferred or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:NoneKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Knowledge of effective customer service techniques.Knowledge of the principles and practices of basic mathematics.Ability to read, write and effectively communicate in the English language.Ability to operate a cash register.Ability to accurately and timely perform routine mathematical computations and count change.MENTAL AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES:Ability to meet attendance requirements.Ability to successfully work with a variety of personalities and people in a positive manner.Limited physical effort required associated with sitting, walking, standing, lifting, bending, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling, 75% to 100% of the work time and carrying light objects (typically less than 25 lbs.) 75-100% of work time.WORKING CONDITIONS:Work is performed in a normal store environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with weather changes.All employees recognize that The Salvation Army is a church and agree that they will do nothing as an employee of The Salvation Army to undermine its religious mission.
