The Emmes Corporation is a privately owned Contract Research Organization (CRO) with offices in Rockville and Frederick Maryland and internationally. Emmes is seeking an Employee Relations Manager to develop, implement and promote business activities that enhance overall employee engagement and overall employee satisfaction while ensuring uniformity of application and compliance of employment policies, practices and procedures with county, state and federal regulations. This position has supervisory responsibilities and reports to the Vice President, Human Resources.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Recommend policy and procedure to align with overall employee relations strategy

  • Develop employee relations programs which strengthen overall employee engagement and employee satisfaction in all Emmes locations

  • Identify, develop and implement management and leadership programs and professional resources for rising, new and existing leadership staff

  • Manage performance review, employee recognition and service award programs

  • Provide subject matter expertise to corporate activities including mentoring program and Gallup survey

  • Ensure uniform application of workplace policies and procedures

  • Remain current with changes in employment law affecting Emmes

  • Provide guidance, support and counsel to employees on employee relations’ issues and workplace policies and procedures

  • Management of employee issues to include investigation and resolution

  • Manage activities to ensure the uniform application of workplace policies and procedures across the organization

  • Manage the process to the collect employment experience to include new employee interview, stay interview, separation interviews and internal audits of employee relations matters

  • Maintains metrics needed to comply with internal and legislative requirements and coordinates completion of government reporting (AAP, EEO, etc.); prepares and distributes reports as required

Primary requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources or a related field

  • PHR/SPHR certification preferred

  • Ten years of relevant and progressive human resources/employee relations work experience to include supervisory experience

  • Experience working in a scientific or academic environment preferred

  • Knowledge of, and ability to understand and apply, federal, state and local law and their relation to employee relations matters

  • In depth knowledge of human resources principles, practices and procedures

  • Excellent interpersonal skills when interacting with management and employees regarding employee relations matters

  • Proven ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding employment information

  • Excellent ability to understand needs and concerns and developing and applying solutions

  • Excellent negotiation, problem resolution, and customer service skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Good knowledge and experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
