IT Platform Senior Engineer
The Senior Platform Engineering position will be a part of the Platform Engineering team that is responsible for engineering platforms the majority of externally-facing production services for the Division of IT. The ideal candidate will be an experienced and forward-thinking member of the technical community with experience designing platforms leveraging Microsoft Technologies.
The Senior Platform Engineer will contribute to the design and build of infrastructure solutions and systems for improving business capabilities, focusing on Microsoft technologies. This role is a key collaborator and promoter of best practices and guidelines from the Platform Engineering Team. This role will partner with all aspects of enterprise architecture along with business stakeholders to ensure alignment with business requirements. This position is responsible for helping define guidelines, standards, and best practices, in addition to the design, maintenance, and documentation of the enterprise infrastructure. This includes servers, storage, workstations, middleware, private and public clouds, and the physical facilities that support applications and business processes. This includes the creation of technical design documentation and integration plans for Microsoft core applications as well as commercial off the shelf products. The candidate will be expected to implement and manage enterprise solutions for specific business needs that provide frameworks, interfaces and services that can be extended and reused for future requirements.
Qualified candidates must have the following:
Bachelor’s degree required. Four years of related work experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree
5+ years of progressively responsible professional IT experience
5+ years experience with Windows 2003/2008/2012/2016 Server operating system and services
3+ years Active Directory administration experience in a large-scale, enterprise level environment
2+ Years programming or scripting experience with (Batch, Cloudformation VB, PowerShell, C#)
Experience managing production infrastructure with configuration management systems (SCCM, Salt, Puppet, Chef)
Experience creating and maintaining infrastructure in public cloud provider environments (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform)
Experience with server virtualization technologies (VMware)
Additional desired skills include:
Experience with Microsoft SQL and Oracle database administration
Docker or similar container experience
Excellent oral and written communications
Linux core fundamentals, command-line operations, scripting, and service monitoring
Experience with migration from legacy applications/data to the cloud
