The selectee for this position serves as a Firefighter (Paramedic). This position is within the Naval District Washington Fire and Emergency Services Department. The purpose of the position is to provide Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Structural Firefighting, and Airport Firefighting techniques within the Naval District Washington Fire and Emergency Services Department.

The Firefighter certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement. If you do not possess all of the above certifications you will be rated ineligible. Copies of Certifications MUST be submitted with your application.***
*Apparatus Operator ARFF and Hazardous Materials Technician certifications must be obtained and maintained within 12 months of initial appointment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department brigade. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) providing fire prevention, fire protection and emergency operations; 2) performing emergency medical service and hazardous materials responses; 3) performing airfield fire control, disaster response/control and recovery.

MAXIMUM ENTRY AGE: This position is a Primary Firefighter position and is covered under Special Firefighter Retirement. Title 5 U.S.C. 3307 authorizes the head of an agency to establish a maximum entry age for the original appointment of individuals to the position of primary firefighter. For initial appointments, applicants cannot have reached their 37th birthday by date of appointment. An applicant reentering into a Primary Firefighter position may have the maximum entry age adjusted based on prior covered Firefighter federal service.
