PositionDescription: The Assistant General Counsel forLitigation assists in the management and resolution of legal matters affectingMaxim Healthcare Services. Essential Dutiesand Responsibilities: Advises branch and corporate office personnel regarding a wide array of substantive issues in order to minimize exposure and expense to the company, while meeting business objectives; Manages litigation and claims filed against Maxim Healthcare Services and files suit where appropriate; Oversees outside counsel in litigation matters, including case strategy and budget concerns; Handles commercial disputes and settlements, collections, and bankruptcy matters; Provides advice and counsel on a wide range of issues, including but not limited to medical malpractice, negligence, patient injury, and neglect, abuse and/or endangerment; Investigates and analyzes factual situations and negotiates/implements resolutions in conjunction with business partners where appropriate; Proactively and assertively manages matters to ensure the highest quality and most efficient representation; Acts as a proactive business partner to senior leadership and builds trusted advisor relationships in addition to influencing and collaborating effectively across all levels of the organization; Exhibits deep knowledge of Maxim's business and the relevant legal issues; Demonstrates subject matter expertise in substantive legal areas managed and keeps abreast of new developments and instills best practices; Actively participates in Legal department administration and operations working closely with the General Counsel and other senior department staff; and Performs other duties as assigned/necessary MinimumRequirements: Juris Doctor Degree from an ABA-accredited law school, and strong academic credentials Must be a member in good standing of the Maryland bar, or actively licensed and in good standing in another state and eligible to sit for the next scheduled administration of the Maryland bar exam At least one year of substantive experience in providing concise and timely legal advice to a company with multiple office locations (areas of responsibility will vary, but the successful candidate should have experience in the front-line investigation of a broad range of employee- and customer-related concerns, and in providing timely, practical, and legally appropriate advice and solutions to field and headquarters personnel) Experience with collections matters, including FDCPA and general commercial litigation Computer proficiency required Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language may be required
