Job Description:Knowesis is seeking a dynamic, analytical and creative Data Journalist who can find and communicate "the story in the numbers" for a portfolio of our clients. This position will work with analysts and communications staff to manage data-focused content production by developing unique and insightful messaging. This will include conceiving and producing data-driven content using the client's corporate data, curated data from private and publicly available dataBeyond finding and analyzing data, the Data Journalist must be a skilled editor who can see the big picture while still focusing on the nuance and detail required to describe data accurately. The ideal candidate should be able to balance having an inquisitive, goal-oriented mind with managing multiple projects on different deadlines.The candidate will have hands on experience with large database management systems, data visualization tools, graphic design packages and open source programming languages.Responsibilities:Define and manage data content production cycle and calendarDevelop unique, creative approaches to creating data-driven contentCreate sound methodologies and unique ranking systems to power data-driven articles and interactive toolsWork with a cross-functional team of Data Scientist/Data Analysts and Communications staff to curate data for our target audience and to develop and execute appropriate content strategiesHelp edit data-driven content prior to publication and support other editorial duties as neededTranslate data needs back and forth among technical, creative and content teams both in-house and off-siteInteract with stakeholders as needed, which may include describing methodologies and responding to questions about data findingsQualifications:Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Journalism, Communication, Economics or any related field2-4 years of journalism, editing, market research and/or data analytics experienceCurrent DoD SECRET security clearance or higherHighly analytical, detail-oriented and passionate about being creative with dataAbility to work independently, learn on the fly and adjust to shifting prioritiesDemonstrated experience in creating and promoting data-driven content is a strong preferenceStrong experience using spreadsheets and/or data sets to combine, refine, analyze and understand dataStrong editing, writing and communication skillsDesired familiarity with one or more of the following specialty areas: Military Health, Medical Research, Veterans Health and BenefitsAbility to recognize how statistically significant relationships in data affect storiesUnderstanding of data visualization and graphic design practicesStrong data analysis skills and the ability to dig out big-picture stories in empirical research.
