Connections Education is part of the global education company, Pearson.Position Summary:Working from our office in Columbia, MD, the Temporary Academic Placement Advisor will work with the Academic Placement Services team to determine appropriate academic courses and program(s) for all prospective students. This is a phone queue environment interacting with prospective families interested in enrolling in a Connections Academy school. This position will address inquiries via phone queue and assist families through the enrollment process by answering program and placement related questions. In order to best serve our families during peak season, our office is open from 9am-9pm with alternating shifts ranging from 9-6, 10-7, 11-8 and 12-9. The anticipated duration of the assignment is from June or July through the end of September, dependent upon cohort. Candidates must be open to flexible scheduling in order to meet the demands of our peak season.Primary Responsibilities:Address family inquiries via phone queue with a strong focus on client experience;Assist prospective families through the enrollment process by answering program and placement related questions;Connect with families to gather essential information from families to determine the most appropriate placement;Follow up with families who have pending questions and concerns regarding their student's account and course placement;Evaluate previous schooling information and academic documentation to determine an appropriate academic fit for students;Communicate course placement decisions, high school graduation requirements and documentation requirements clearly and accurately through verbal and written communication with parents;Demonstrate a thorough understanding of Connections Academy's K-12th grade curricular options as well as the requirements of the enrollment process;Communicate with School Counselors, Principals and Teachers to help determine appropriate placements for students and families with specific needs;Coordinate with the Enrollment Team to consult and counsel parents regarding the enrollment and placement process; andOther duties as assigned.General Responsibilities:Review student performance, by evaluating report cards, state standardized test scores, and placement tests and match against Connections Academy curricular options and determine which course(s) of study are appropriate for each student;Determine gifted and talented course eligibility for students in Grade 3 through Grade 8 using previous academic documentation, placement tests results, IQ testing scores, and state standardized test scores;Follow graduation requirements and course sequence guidelines to finalize placement for incoming students in grades 9-11;Approve course schedules for students using Connections Academy's Education Management System's Course Placement Tool;Demonstrate a general understanding of Connections Academy's special education program, Individual Education Programs (IEPs), and processes for supplying related services to students; andOther duties as assigned.Experience in an educational setting/school, preferably as a teacher, high school guidance counselor, reading specialist, or registrar (or with scheduling experience) preferredKnowledge of curriculum as it corresponds to students' developmental stages and state standards a plusKnowledge of online student information systems a plusExcellent verbal and written communication skillsHighly organized, self-motivated, hard workerAbility to learn quickly and multi-taskPrior phone queue or customer service experience is highly preferredAble to act as a team player and demonstrate flexibility in a fast-paced work environmentStrong organizational skills and an attention to detailStrong technology and computer skills are essential
