Under general supervision as a System Administrator, establishes operational databases, software configuration control and system interfaces for computer systems assigned. Maintains file servers, network access; documents and analyzes system anomalies to ensure optimum equipment performance. Prepares system for operational use and support operational tests. As a VTC Administrator, provides long-term planning for voice/video network including circuit forecasts, traffic studies and other network performance reports. Plans integration of new switches, call controllers and audio/video initiatives into network. Oversees ordering process to effectively and economically meet grade of service objectives. Plans new routing revisions to ensure that the network databases are consistent with network plans. Ensures that management and planning software is developed and revised to accurately report traffic levels. With a wide range of knowledge; evaluates, designs, documents, installs, implements, tests, performs problem isolation and resolution, monitors, tunes and sets standards on all networks, services (data, voice and video), and encryption devices. Maintains a complex range of computer network and video components and systems.  Provides client consulting and training on the interfacing and use of the network and conference room facilities and desktop video endpoints. Plans and coordinates computer and voice/video network initiatives. Researches, evaluates and recommends new computer network equipment and technologies. Devises solutions to operational problems within the capacity and operational limitations of installed equipment. Provides internal consulting, technical guidance, information and support to application developers, computer operations, workstation support, company management and departmental clients. Works with other network and video professionals as directed to coordinate efforts, resolve cross-team issues and communicate changes.

  • Has experience with CISCO, Foundry, SONET, Juniper, Voice and legacy (Tandberg) equipment
  • Competent to work at a high technical level on all phases of network and video operations
  • Can effectively deliver training
  • May be required to provide clear and effective direction to less experienced staff
  • Detail oriented and organized
  • Must closely follow network protocols and methodology
May review the work of others and be able to detect errors or needed modifications

Education Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work experience.

  • BA/BS or equivalent + 4-8 yrs. of experience as a System Administrator / VTC Administrator
  • CCNA or equivalent Certification preferred
  • ITIL v3 Certification preferred
  • DoDI 8570.01m Certification required (Network+ or Security+ or CCNA-Security, etc.)
