Responsible for the design and development of voice, video, radio-frequency, and/or data communications networks.

 1. Analyzes voice, video, radio-frequency, and/or data communications networks, including planning, designing, evaluating, selecting, and upgrading operating systems and protocol suites and configuring communication media with concentrators, bridges, and other devices.

 2. Plans network layouts and configures systems to user environments.

 3. Analyzes network topologies and traffic and capacity requirements.

 4. Supports the acquisition of hardware and software as well as subcontractor services as needed.

 5. May provide technical support and troubleshooting to users.

 6. Performs network administration and engineers solutions as approved for the Network Enterprise.

 

7. Provides logical diagrams and maintains existing diagrams by providing updates and modifications.

 

8. Works with network monitoring, reporting, and analytical tools such as SolarWinds.

 

9. Works with network management tools such as NCM, ISE, Dot1x, etc.

 

10. Updates and maintains current data bases and asset management data bases.

 11. Some after hours and weekend work may be required as well as on call support.

 

12. Provides weekly updates and situational reporting as required.

 

13. Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned.

 14. Participates in special projects as required. Education
  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work experience.

  • Applicable IT industry - recognized DoDD 8570 certification required.
  • CCNA certification required

  • CCNP certification preferred
Qualifications 2-5 years of directly related experience in network analysis and design.

  • Knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques used in network administration and support
  • Knowledge of routers, switches, patch panels, concentrators, associated terminals, and related network hardware and software
  • Knowledge of desktop operating systems and applications

  • Understand change management procedures to include scheduling outages in advance with the Government and coordinating with impacted sites/functions

  • Respond to trouble calls and be able to determine and implement appropriate fix action and document all actions in accordance with established policies

  • Knowledge of cable protocol/standards

  • Familiarity with server hardware, communication systems, and intelligence information systems

  • Working knowledge of TACLANE/FASTLANE, COMSEC, and HAIPE
  • Working knowledge of GEMx and Vines management tools
  • Strong troubleshooting background in networking and communications equipment

  • Strong communication skills (written & oral)

  • Ability to deal with customers at all levels in stressful situations

  • Ability to prioritize and dynamically re-task response and recovery actions as situations change

  • Applicable IT industry-recognized DoDD 8570 certification required
