This role is a dual hatted position leading a group of High Performing Technical SMEs. The position fills our GDIT Solutions Engineering Manager duties and responsibilities as well as an on-site Systems Engineer running technical projects. The Solutions Engineer Manager duties include; Oversight over 40+ Engineers, Holistic oversight over all infrastructure projects and solutions, and high visibility issues. Closely support the Staff level Engineering Mgr., and Chief Architect as we evolve into a new platform for the future of our big data. This environment will be moving to a Cloud Based solution and you will have input into that process to help shape our future. This is a fantastic opportunity to become involved full blown Solutions Architecture across a private network with the customer space. This candidate will also serve in a Senior Systems Engineer. The primary responsibility for this position is a Systems Engineer providing holistic oversight of technical projects while performing as a technical lead working with management team and engineering and operational resources.
Working under minimal supervision the selected candidate will work with a technical group on projects from reviewing requirements to ensure system compatibility for optimal system performance; collaborate with business users to discuss requirements; perform current state system analysis; write functional and technical specifications of current state systems, provide weekly status reports regarding system engineering and integration initiatives. The successful candidate will have proven experience with establishing integrated project team structure and assignments and experience leading, directing and managing enterprise IT system development/engineering efforts, tasking, and schedules through work breakdown structure and program planning.
This role requires someone with proven experience implementing cross domain solutions that support requirements of varying complexity in addition to planning and managing the coordinated effort of a team of different stakeholders, information technology, and related technical professionals, to include personnel with different organizations with competing interest (e.g., customer, cross domain governing bodies, hosting facility, and technology provider).

 

1. Performs expert-level systems development and design work that may include logic design, I/O design, firmware development, model formulation, manufacturing and development cost projections, computer architecture analysis and design, and analog or digital systems engineering.

 2. Performs systems modeling, simulation, and analysis.

 3. Acts as a subject-matter expert to multiple tasks and/or programs.

 4. Reviews completion and implementation of system additions and/or enhancements and makes recommendations to management and/or clients.

 5. Plans and directs upgrades of operating systems and designs systems enhancements. 6. Identifies, analyzes, and resolves system problems.

 7. Determines system specifications, input/output processes, and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility.

 8. Serves as a technical team or task lead.

 9. Provides guidance and work leadership to less-experienced systems engineers and may have supervisory responsibility.

 10. Serves as liaison with clients, participating in meetings to ensure client needs are met.

 11. May provide expertise to multiple projects and tasks.

 12. Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned.

 13. Participates in special projects as required.

Education 1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, System Engineering or related field and 13 years of professional experience which should include either management consulting experience or relevant industry knowledge. Additional experience can be added in lieu of degree.

 

2. Masters degree preferred.

Qualifications 15-20 years of related systems engineering experience.

 Required Skills:

o Operating systems - Engineering and/or enterprise configuration of Microsoft, UNIX, and/or Linux systems
o Networking - Understanding of TCP/IP, basic routing, security zones, controlled interfaces, installation and/or configuration of routers/switches, and experience designing multi-tier networks
o Application Integration - Experience in the design and integration of multiple COTS products
o Storage - Understanding of basic storage principles and including types of storage, RAID types, network storage types, and the best practices of when to use each type
o Virtualization / Cloud - Experience in developing / implementing virtualization systems and the automatic provisioning of components
o Draft project briefings, conceptual whitepapers, program planning, and other foundation documents
o Understanding of all phases of the software development lifecycle; the System Engineering Life Cycle; and the ability to comprehend user business needs and concerns and integrate that understanding with technical skills
o Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Java and middleware environments
o  Ability to grasp new concepts, technologies and products quickly
o  Demonstrated knowledge and experience with all of the following infrastructure principles:
o Active Directory
o Encryption
o IDS/IPS
o Firewalls
o Anti-Virus
o VPNs
o SSL
o Ability to resolve complex hardware/software compatibility and interface design considerations
o Ability to work within system engineering standards and guidelines
o Ability to facilitate technical and non-technical discussions among people with differing backgrounds and opinions and lead to consensus
