Information Technology Specialist
This position is in the Technology Division of the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN). Incumbent is an Information Technology Specialist engaged in one or more IT specializations, such as information systems security; operating systems planning and application; infrastructure operations; network systems management; data acquisition storage and retrieval; internet, intranet and extranet activities; the installation, testing, operation, troubleshooting and maintenance of hardware and software systems; customer support services. Incumbent is assigned functional responsibility on continuing projects. Incumbent utilizes mastery knowledge and skill in providing advice, guidance and expertise to management officials and other specialists in planning for and dealing with complex, novel issues.

Specialized experience: For the GS-13, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service.
Specialized experience for this position includes:
- Serving as an advisor to specialists and managers in evaluating, implementing and supporting information technology infrastructure projects, network systems, databases and security operations; AND
- Serving as a technical consultant to customers in support of systems on an organization's servers; AND
- Diagnosing causes of complex critical systems administration problems and devising innovative solutions for their resolution; AND
- Analyzing server performance data and recommending changes and/or improvements as necessary.
The experience may have been gained in either the public or private sector. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.
