Senior Business Intelligence Developer - University Information Services

The Senior Business Intelligence Developer is responsible for the analysis of University-wide data architecture for information system requirements, development of specifications, both low- and high-level programming, and writing system documentation.  S/he provides technical support for analysis, design, implementation and maintenance of enterprise data management applications; and uses operational and functional knowledge of all aspects of the application to develop alternatives to customization of purchased system where possible, or to design and implement appropriate modifications where required.  Reporting to the Director, Business Intelligence and Analytics, and serving as assigned as a member of one or more project teams, with additional reporting line to that project's manager,  the Senior Business Intelligence Developer has duties that include but are not limited to:

  • Analyzes, defines, implements changes to, and supports enterprise applications - for example, PeopleSoft, Informatica, and Cognos.
  • Effectively uses tools and programming languages for writing and modifying programs that comprise an application system - for example, SQRs, SQL, Perl, Oracle, and Unix.
  • Effectively manages changes to the production environment and technology-based assets of the organization - for example, application software, production databases, operating systems software, and hardware.
  • Anticipates, recognizes, and resolves technical - for example, hardware, software, application or operational) problems.
  • Performs effective testing of applications to ensure adherence to functional and quality requirements.
  • Takes appropriate measures to assure adherence to standards associated with accessing, altering, and protecting enterprise applications and organizational data.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's in Computer Science, MIS or related computing intensive field
  • 5 or more years of relevant experience in maintenance and design of relevant enterprise systems, preferably in a higher education environment
  • Requires experience with designing data models for accounting/financial, human resources, grants, student data, reporting and processes
  • Experience developing and maintaining enterprise data warehouse systems/tools (e.g., Informatica, Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services, Cognos Framework Manger, Report Studio, and PowerPlay)
  • Experience with environment and development tools (for example, Oracle, SQR/SQL, SAS, Java, Control-M, and CA Endevor)
  • Experience developing and maintaining Workday Financials, HCM and Banner or similar enterprise application like Oracle, or SAP - preference for experience with MuleSoft, Salesforce, Tableau
  • Experience with designing data models for accounting/financial, grants and human resources and student data, reporting and processes
  • Ability to rapidly adapt to changing business requirements and to efficiently acquire and utilize new skills in response to such change
  • Ability to apply proven communication, analytical and problem solving skills in order to produce timely, efficient and high quality deliverables
  • Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail, as well as verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to build and use effective working relationships within own department and across line, functional and geographic reporting lines
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills in order to produce timely, efficient and high quality deliverables
