The Production Coordinator works with the Production Manager and Assistant Manager of Production & Operations to support concert production for the NSO Pops Series, Specials, Declassified Series, run-outs, and other concerts as needed.  The Production Coordinator will support the Orchestra Manager in preparations for international tours and other special projects, including the NSO’s Digital Media projects.  The goal of this position is to ensure the smooth-running of NSO programming through organized and efficient logistical preparation.

Duties and Responsibility:

25%     Work with the Production Manager and Assistant Manager to coordinate technical and logistical details for the NSO Pops Series, Specials, and Declassified concerts.  Support preparation for these programs by collecting and disseminating all technical details from tech riders, production contacts, NSO departments, and other sources in an organized and timely manner.               

20%     Coordinate and arrange equipment and instrument rentals for Pops productions based on concert programming and technical requirements, including backline, lighting, sound, audio-visual, and other props.

20%     Liaise with visiting Production Managers and technical contacts for NSO Pops concerts. Facilitate communication with regarding technical riders, Concert Hall technical specifications, production schedules, backline, and other relevant information.

10%     Support the Operations Department in NSO domestic and international tour preparations.  Organize, enter, and maintain tour data, such as travel arrangements, cargo and instrument details, and visa and passport processing.

10%     Assist with NSO run-out concerts through logistical preparations and on-site staffing such as for Capitol Concerts, NSO In Your Neighborhood events, Sound Health programs, and Wolf Trap.

5%      Assist in general operations of the office by training and working with NSO Operations Intern (in conjunction with Assistant Manager of Production & Operations and other Operations staff).  Assist NSO musicians with scheduling rehearsal spaces.  

5%     Support NSO Production and Operations by maintaining organization of past and present physical files, electronic files, updating reference documents, and performing other duties and administrative tasks as assigned.

5%     Assist NSO Orchestra Manager in tracking and supporting the NSO’s Digital Media projects.

Education/Experience:

  • College degree, with experience in Production and Arts Management, is required. Minimum of two years of experience in concert production or technical theatre; experience with symphony orchestras is preferred.

Minimum Skills and/or Knowledge Required:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are critical. Must have the ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of people. Works to build productive relationships throughout the organization, outside vendors, and other contacts. 
  • Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy are essential. Must be able to effectively gather and organize information from a wide variety of sources.  Ability to meet deadlines, often under pressure.
  • Excellent computer skills including (but not limited to) proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access) and willingness to learn new programs, such as OPAS, Visio, and ArtsVision are required.
