IT Systems Engineer V
Education/Training Certification:
  • A+ Certification (issued by CompTIA
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
  • Current certifications for the systems listed herein. This includes but is not limited to Software House C-Cure and Verint Nextiva training certifications for installers. In lieu of specific manufacturer systems, certification in systems of equivalent or greater complexity and functionality to the systems deployed at the Library of Congress will be considered. However, the individual must be enrolled and successfully complete the certifications at the next offered date at no cost to the government.
  • Associate level degree from an accredited institution. (Desirable; not required)
Demonstrated Experience:
  • Cisco networking - Configuration and Administration of network switches, routers, and other network appliances, including but limited to: Cisco ASA, Switchstacks, PoE, Media Converters, WAN connectivity, VPN configuration. Experience shall include a working knowledge of the Cisco IOS command line.
  • Virtualization - The IT Specialist shall have experience and training in a VM Ware environment. This experience includes the configuration of VSphere and the management of the ESX Host servers, virtual machines, virtual networking.
  • Server/Workstation Hardware - the IT Specialist shall have demonstrated experience with hardware configuration of Servers and Workstations, including but not limited to: Hard Drive/SSD replacement, RAM upgrades, expansion card installations such as NIC and Video Cards
  • Server/Workstation Software - The IT Specialist shall have demonstrated experience working in and configuration of a Windows environment, including Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows Server 2000, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008/ The IT Specialist shall have also demonstrated experience in the following specialized software: High Availability/Fault Tolerance applications such as AAM/Replistore/Marathon, Mail Servers, What's Up Gold, Dell OpenManage, WSUS, AntiVirus, Patch Management, NES-SUS, Apache, SQL. Additionally, experience in physical access control software at the Enterprise level such as Software House.. MDI, or Lennel. Experience with video management software such as Verint Nextiva, Milestone, Axis, Bosch, Pelco.
  • Window Active Directory - The IT Specialist shall have demonstrated experience configuring and working in a domain environment. This experience includes the management group policy and assignment of user privileges.
  • NIST SP 800 - The IT Specialist shall be familiar with the controls identified in NIST SP 800. As needed, the IT Specialist shall ensure all actions and configuration changes are compliant with the guidelines set forth in this publication.


Duties:
Working with the systems and devices identified above, the IT Systems Engineer ensures all information system items (pc's, servers, data network, gateways/switches/routers) are performing at an optimum level. Specifically, the IT Systems Engineer:
  • Maintains software version control on all IESS information systems
  • Works with Program Manager to maintain software licenses
  • Monitors manufacturer websites/ftp sites for software updates including patches and coordinates with OSEP's System Administrator to plan deployment
  • Communicates with manufacturer technical support on software issues affecting the IESS
  • Maintains a real time configuration of hardware/software configuration including IP Addressing, OS type, service tags, warranty, etc.
  • Participates in the development and maintenance of the Information Systems Emergency Operations Plan which details site specific details related to rebuilding any component of the information system
  • Supports other members of the IESS maintenance team providing support as needed to configure network specific details on field panels and any other IP device integrated into the IESS.
  • Assists the COR/TPOC with maintaining the certification and accreditation of the information systems supporting the IESS systems.
