Job Title: ASSISTANT SENIOR TRAVEL COORDINATOR (PART-TIME/30 HOURS PER WEEK) Closing Date/Time: Thu. 06/22/17 11:59 PM Eastern Time Salary: $22.37 - $34.18 Hourly
Job Type: Part-Time Location: Lubber Run - 300 N. Park Drive, Arlington, Virginia       Arlington County's Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) has an opportunity for an individual to work part-time in support of DPR Office of Senior Adult Programs (OSAP). OSAP provides recreation, education, social, wellness and volunteer opportunities for Arlington's senior population. The employee will provide support to the Travel Program Supervisor by identifying and assessing local travel needs of senior participants, including special needs participants, for local or regional events. This person provides travel program planning coordination and support for an average of 15 day trips a month while serving as the main point of contact for participants. 

Specific duties:
  • Designs, plans, and implements majority of the monthly day trips;
  • Researches availability and negotiates prices of tickets for local and regional travel destinations;
  • Coordinates the travel registration process for participants by conducting registration for trips and processes enrollment data, cancelations and wait-list requests;
  • Monitors expenditures, program costs, and advises the Travel Supervisor on status of accounts;
  • Submits vendor invoices and processes participant deposits and payments;
  • Makes recommendations for program adjustments based on participant feedback, number of trips, and attendance.
  • Ensures County policies are followed during the travel program planning; 
  • Assists with recruitment, training, and evaluations of volunteers;
  • Writes content for and maintains all related publications including the Arlington County 55+ Guide, webpage and bi-monthly newsletter by ensuring accuracy if information in publications; and
  • Markets the Senior Adult Program by visiting community events, clubs, senior centers and speaking engagements.

 Selection Criteria: Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Recreation Administration, Gerontology/Aging Studies, Business Management or a closely related field, plus one year of experience administering or providing support to recreational programs. 

Substitution: Additional qualifying experience may substitute for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis. 

Desirable: Preference may be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following:
  • Microsoft Office 365, including SharePoint;
  • Accounts payable, billing, or bookkeeping;
  • Data entry or data management;
  • Writing content for promotional materials; and/or
  • Working in travel or events planning.

 Additional Information: This is a part-time, 30 hour per week position, normally scheduled from 8:30am to 3:00pm Monday through Friday, with occasional evening and weekend work.

Employees must have reliable transportation.
