This position is located in the Executive Office, National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI), Smithsonian Institution. The employee acts as a primary interface with the public by answering the museum’s main telephone line and providing callers with information about the museum and its programs, greeting and directing visitors to meetings with the Director and other museum staff, managing the executive Office’s incoming and outgoing mail, overseeing the routing of documents for the Director’s review and signature, providing general clerical support to the Executive Office, and assisting with special projects within the department.

Experience: You qualify for this position if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 level in the Federal Service or comparable pay band system. For this position Specialized experience is defined as answering phones, greeting visitors, and performing general administrative support work in a professional office setting.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite is creditable. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.
