Must be a teacher who has achieved continuing contract status in Loudoun County Public Schools, have classroom experience in Loudoun County Public Schools, and have middle or high school licensure. Preferred subject areas are Science, Mathematics, History, Social Studies, and Language Arts. Selection criteria for this position will emphasize the following quality ranking factors: Applicant's formal teaching experience Applicant's informal teaching experience (museums, science center, summer camps, workshops, hand-on learning, object based learning, etc.) Background in curriculum and educational material development for multiple grade levels Demonstrates interpersonal, teamwork, and organizational skills Availability on some weekends, holidays, and particularly during the Udvar-Hazy Center special events Familiarity with the educational resources of Loudoun County, the Smithsonian Institution, and the National Air and Space Museum Familiarity with aviation and space history, science, and technology Skills with computer applications needed to create curriculum (i.e. word processing, presentation software, and computer graphics)
The Aerospace Educator is responsible to the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction working in cooperation with the Director of Education for the Udvar-Hazy Center. Day-to-day supervision of the LCPS Aerospace Educator will be the responsibility of the Director of Education for the Udvar-Hazy Center.
The Aerospace Educator is a 12-month appointment for the 2017-2018 school year. The calendar of workdays and holidays will conform to the calendar of the Smithsonian Udvar-Hazy Center. This includes working on some weekends and holidays. Some local travel within the area is possible. The 12-month position ends on June 30, 2018. The applicant will return to his/her former position following the one-year appointment and is placed back on the teacher pay schedule.
