The George Mason University Student Centers invites applications for the position of Audio-Visual (A/V) Engineer. Responsibilities: * Ensure functionality and perform maintenance, repairs and upgrades on Student Centersâ€™ and Student Centersâ€™ managed in-house A/V systems; * Ensure functionality and perform maintenance, repairs and upgrades on Student Centersâ€™ portable A/V equipment; * Supervise and train approximately three to five student staff to help provide on-call support; and assist with maintenance, repairs and inventory duties; * Train Student Centersâ€™ personnel on capabilities and system usage of equipment and in-house systems; * Assist Production Supervisor in projects and other duties as assigned; * Maintain database of equipment that tracks history, and usage of equipment, including repair/maintenance/installation information; and * Maintain inventory database of housed location, quantities, serial numbers, purchase dates, of all equipment in conjunction with the university barcoding/inventory tracking system.
Required Qualifications: * Knowledge of all aspects of sound reinforcement systems; * Knowledge of all aspects of lighting systems; * Knowledge of all aspects of projection systems; * Functions effectively as a member of a support or instructional team; * Ability to meet deadlines; * Ability to communicate effectively; * Ability to adapt and communicate in a diverse environment; * Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, administrators, dignitaries and off-campus patrons; * Ability to learn as well as sharing training knowledge with others; * Ability to work outside regular business hours; * Ability to prioritize and juggle many responsibilities simultaneously; * Demonstrates a strong commitment to higher education; * Basic computer skills required (e.g., MS Office suite, e-mail navigation, electronic database systems); * Valid driverâ€™s license; must be insurable; and * High school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications: * Trained and detailed working knowledge in Crestron, Extron and ETC systems; * Knowledge and experience with video camera and/or video conferencing systems; * Any trade-specific or rigging licenses; * Bachelorâ€™s degree; and * Demonstrated experience in student center/student union operations, events production or A/V installation-related fields.
