Senior Director. Talent Management and Strategy - Office of Advancement

The Senior Director, Talent Management and Strategy, reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and serving as a member of the Office of Advancement (OA) leadership team, is responsible for the strategy and oversight of the OA Talent Management function.  S/he has broad authority to shape, build, and manage the OA's talent, ensuring the OA's success through the University's ambitious capital campaign. As the leader of the talent management team, the Senior Director serves as an advisor to the Vice President of Advancement and COO, imparts organizational leadership on talent strategy, provides comprehensive oversight for talent management strategy, and creates a talent management infrastructure to include:  ​

Talent Acquisition Strategy, Planning, and Recruitment

  • Establish and implement talent strategy and complete annual business and fiscal plans: formulate plans, develop and implement department goals, objectives, and aligned initiatives. Prepare and manage the budget. Ensure best practices in systems, practices, files and record keeping; and effective use of all resources and tools.
  • Work with the VP and COO Advancement in oversight of organization-wide talent acquisition process focusing on acquiring talent to meet the current and future needs of OA.
  • Oversee strategic, full life cycle recruiting -- source, pre-qualify, interview, assess, extend/negotiate offers -- for positions and work with leaders to assess candidates.

Leadership and Campaign Talent Development 

  • Collaborate with the senior leadership team to develop and implement a department-wide workforce planning blueprint.
  • Lead campaign strategic talent initiatives to include: the acquisition and onboarding of strategic priority positions, the creation of engagement strategies for the retention of mission-critical top talent and academic leader training.

Engagement, Acquisition & Onboarding

  • Provide oversight of organization-wide talent acquisition and onboarding programs focusing on building a talent pipeline and acquiring talent to meet the current and future needs of OA.
  • Track metrics to measure results, impact and cost-effectiveness of team, specifically designed to minimize days-to-fill, cost per hire and new hire retention.
  • Oversee comprehensive rewards and recognition program: service, informal, and performance awards and employee events.
  • Oversee Talent Review process including organizational communication, accountability, and leadership training, feedback and tools.


  • Bachelors' degree in organizational development and design/talent management, talent acquisition or an appropriate area of specialization
  • Eight to ten years of experience providing leadership and oversight of talent management function and organizational development functions
  • Proven success in a complex organization and prior experience in higher education. Experience in working within an advancement organization is strongly preferred
  • Proven success in a leadership role; excellent planning and project management skills; and the ability to lead, influence and motivate others are required.
  • Excellent communication skills; interpersonal skills; and the ability to work collegially and interact effectively with a diverse constituency; organizational skills; and a customer service-oriented attitude.
  • A high level of discretion in a highly confidential work environment 
  • Strong information systems orientation, including extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office and applicable software systems, as well as the ability to navigate internal and external databases/ web interfaces to perform applicable research.
