Senior Level Advisor for Electrical Engineering

Specialized Experience: You must also have at least seven to ten years of specialized experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g., graduate degree), that demonstrates extensive knowledge of, and experience as a recognized expert in, the field of electrical engineering, including knowledge of state-of-the-art technological issues, problems, and potential solutions sufficient to provide expert advice and analysis on a wide spectrum of scientific and engineering issues. Thorough knowledge and understanding of nuclear technology is desired. At least one year of this experience should be comparable in complexity and responsibility to the kind of work normally assigned at the grade 15 level or higher in the Federal government or equivalent.

- Demonstrated expert knowledge of, and experience as a recognized expert in, the field of electrical engineering, including state-of-the-art technological issues, problems, and potential solutions.
- Extensive knowledge of industry codes and standards related to the design and maintenance of nuclear power plant electrical components and systems.
- Demonstrated skill independently performing complex technical analyses and evaluations in areas related to electrical engineering, particularly as it relates to onsite and off-site electrical systems of commercial nuclear power plants.
- Demonstrated advanced oral and written communication skills, and experience effectively conveying and presenting complex information of a technical and/or policy nature to colleagues, peers, senior management officials, or representatives of other institutions, agencies, or organizations.
- Demonstrated ability to function as an organizational representative and liaison on substantive technical and policy issues and to achieve cooperation and consensus among parties engaged in joint or parallel efforts.
You must possess a thorough knowledge of the theories, principles, and practices of engineering or physical science as evidenced by a bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
General Engineering Series, 801/Electrical Engineering Series, 850:
- Degree: professional engineering. To be acceptable, the curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.
- Combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering.
