Systems Engineer, Cloud
PenFed is hiring a Cloud Engineer in Chantilly, VA. The Cloud Engineer will be responsible for implementing, supporting, and monitoring PenFed’s emerging cloud environment. This position is a key resource for the implementation strategies in the cloud while driving cloud initiative in high performance grid computing and managing a scalable, continuous-integration architecture.Essential Functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Partner with IT architecture team and management to create an AWS and/or Azure cloud strategy, roadmap, standards, and processes.
Design, implement and maintain cloud-based solutions and infrastructure (AWS, and Azure)
Assist software developers and other team members by implementing required API’s, IAM, and policies.
Work integrating with cloud technologies- IaaS, PaaS and Enterprise tools integration, for example, monitoring, logging and development tools.
Assist Security team in reviewing cloud security to implement strong security practices.
Use current or new tools to monitor environment including CloudWatch, CloudTrail and other network monitoring tools.
Writes scripts / code to build and automate environment.
Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for cloud environment.
Participates in on-call 24X7 support as needed in the event of system outage or failure.
Provide documentation on installation and configuration procedures.
Share practices with internal team members.
Comply with Incident Management and Severity 1 escalation procedures and reporting practices.
Continuous skills enhancement in a dynamic technical environment is required.
Stay informed regarding advances in cloud technologies. Maintain understanding of emerging architecture concepts and methods and associated technology trends.
Collaborate with Infrastructure Engineering, Development, and Quality Assurance teams to minimize process impact to the production environment.

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related Information Technology degree.
Minimum 2 years hands-on experience designing, developing, and implementing in AWS cloud environment (VPC, IAM, S3, EC3, ELB, RDS, SQS, SNS, Route53 etc).
Understanding of cloud emerging technologies
2+ years of experience in Linux systems administration
Understand AWS/Azure architectural best practices, comfort in teaching applying them with junior engineering staff and project teams
Understanding of DevOps tools and continuous pipeline; Build/release experience a plus
Experience using Ansible, Chef, or Puppet
Programming/Scripting languages such as Java Perl, Python, Ruby, etc.
Cloud Security working knowledge
Knowledge / experience with monitoring tools such as CloudWatch, New Relic, DataDog a plus
Exhibit mastery of scripting, PowerShell required.
Strong technical aptitude and work ethic. Good organizational, time management and problem-solving skills. Must be flexible and be able to adapt to quickly changing priorities.
Must be a good team member and be flexible with work schedules. Requires ability to work “off hours” to implement solutions in order to limit impact/exposure to customers and being “on-call” as assigned.
Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to relay technical information to non-technical users.
Requires physical ability to mount servers on cabinets and running cables to servers. Physical requirements vary depending on what is being done, but may include: lifting floor tiles, lifting boxes, mounting server rails, pulling strands of cable, physical dexterity of the hands to run cables and bolt rails in the cabinets.
