Director of MBA Admissions & Operations - McDonough School of Business

The Director of MBA Admissions & Operations serves as one of the senior members on the Admissions staff for the Full-time and Evening MBA Program at the McDonough School of Business with the overall purpose to support the Associate Dean of MBA Admissions in the integration of the admissions recruiting and operations functions, core admissions planning and implementation and the ongoing effort supporting the existing and new systems for both the Full-time and Evening MBA Programs.  Working closely with the Associate Dean of MBA Admissions in support of its academic mission, the Director provides the Senior Associate Dean and Associate Dean of MBA Admissions with data and input regarding forecasts, analyses and makes recommendations in support of overall enrollment planning and strategy, which includes:  setting admissions, scholarship and interview strategy.  S/he works closely with the Associate Director of Data Analytics to direct analyses of application, admissions, scholarship and yield data for reporting and monitoring.  Within the admissions office, in addition to planning, implementing, and monitoring the overall admissions process (application evaluation, candidate interviews, and final admissions decision and scholarship selection), the Director has direct supervisory responsibility for the operations team and external staff (readers and interviewers), the operations budget and overseeing all application related systems.

The Director, by working with the Associate Director of Data Analytics, analyzes and synthesizes a large amount of nuanced data and uses historical statistics and trends to develop forecasts in an effort to make strategic recommendations to the Associate Dean of MBA Admissions in the selection of the class each year.

The Director represents the Full-time and MBA Programs at national and international student recruitment events, plans and attends on and off campus events as needed.

The Director assists with new initiatives and provides strategic recommendations to the Associate Dean of MBA Admissions and the Assistant Dean of Marketing, Communications & External Relations on department planning.

Reporting directly to the Associate Dean for MBA Admissions, the Director directly supervises an operations team that consists of one Senior Assistant Director and one Front Office Manager, and indirectly supervises one Admissions Manager, one Operations Coordinator, with a dotted line relationship to the Associate Director of Data Analytics, as well as up to 5 student workers and 4 to 6 external readers/interviewers.  The Director also collaborates with the Assistant Dean of MBA Marketing, Communications and External Relations, members of the MBA Program Office, MBA Career Center; and oversees the Operations Team collaboration with the Office of Financial Aid, Office of Global Services and other stakeholders across the university related to graduate admissions and systems management (i.e., UIS, Registrar, Student Accounts, and MSB Tech Center).


  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least 5 years of experience within a corporate or university setting with a focus on enrollment management and/or recruitment
  • Professional supervisory experience
  • Proficiency with PC-based word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation packages (Windows environment)
  • Strong leadership and management skills
  • Extremely strong interpersonal abilities and strong team orientation
  • Core admissions experience or equivalent (i.e., reading applications, interviewing prospective students, and recruitment travel)

Preferred qualifications

  • Master's degree in business, higher education, or counseling - with specific professional experience in an admissions or recruitment environment
  • Knowledge of and experience with systems integrations and use of Salesforce and other database systems
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Ability to work with various constituencies including prospective students, current students, alumni, faculty, and staff 
  • Ability to think strategically in the delivery of programs and services
