Fielder's Choice Enterprises (FCE), a leading road and bridge contractor, and member of The Caton Companies, is seeking  a reliable Sr. Construction Estimator.

Summary/Objective

The Senior Estimator has a key role in FCE and is responsible for identifying and preparing cost estimates for all projects assigned to this role. This process includes detailed and comprehensive quantity takeoff, accurate cost evaluation, subcontractor/supplier bid solicitation, subcontractor/supplier scope/qualification/cost evaluation, risk evaluation, and bid submission. The Senior Estimator is also responsible for management of assigned estimating personnel.

Essential Functions

•Consult with outsides sources and analyze documents to create time, cost, materials and labor estimates.

•Create estimates and cost or expenditure statements for use in future project consideration.

•Oversee and coordinate all estimating functions.

•Contact subcontractors and vendors for bid pricing

•Review, evaluate and thoroughly understand Request for Proposals (RFPs) and solicitations

•Work with senior management and project/proposal managers to develop winning bid strategies

•Perform scope and quantity takeoffs and prepare detailed scopes of work for bidding

•Review and clarify bid submissions and negotiate pricing with subcontractors

•Maintain a highly organized bid file

•Present estimates for review by senior staff

•Develop and maintain positive subcontractor relationships

•Experience overseeing multiple estimates for a Heavy Civil Contractor

•Strong roadway & bridge knowledge (VDOT)

•Background in water and sewer

•Expert user of HCSS estimating software

•Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

•Must be computer proficient

•Effectively communicate verbally and in writing

•Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications

•Ability to recognize plan discrepancies, errors, and omissions

•Requires a forward-thinking, progressive, dynamic leader who has excellent personnel management skills, an internal and external focus, and the desire to be promoted in a growing company.

Supervisory Responsibility

•Mentor junior estimating staff

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position; typical work hours and days are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., however work outside this time frame may be required due to estimating demands.

Travel/ Driving

Travel is required. Driver’s license and personal vehicle required.

Required Education and Experience

•Bachelors in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or other related degree.

•Must have 5+ years’ experience Heavy/Highway and civil estimating experience
