The George Mason University Office of Human Resources and Payroll invites applicants for the position of Employee Relations Specialist. Responsibilities: Reporting to the Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Human Resources and Director of Employee Relations, this individual will provide managerial support, advice, counsel, conflict resolution, and problem-solving to faculty and staff in need of employee relations assistance or resources. Additional responsibilities include: * Provide first line support for Employee Relations issues; * Provide counsel, coaching and support to classified staff supervisors on classified staff performance management; disciplinary/conduct related concerns; and workplace conflict to include mediation and facilitation of meetings; * Guide individuals and teams on how to effectively address and resolve workplace concerns; * Partner and support the annual performance management cycle; * Provide support and advice on employee concerns that align with employee relations process and procedures; * Conduct exit interviews for all departing employees; and * Support and partner other members of the employee relations team in handling faculty and staff issues, and serving as the representative and point of contact for the department in the consultants absence.
Required Qualifications: * Advanced degree required, along with experience in human resources; * Knowledge of HR polices/procedures and best practices; and ability to work with functional groups and different levels of employees to effectively and professionally achieve results; * Professional, calm, and steady demeanor; * In-depth knowledge of employment law in relevant jurisdictions; * Ability to advise on local cultural business norms and behavior; * Must be able to maintain confidential information; * Demonstrate superior communication skills, including the ability to influence, both orally and in writing; * Ability to observe, listen and build relationships--must be caring, competent and optimistic; and approach people and problems and individuals; and * Ability to build relationships with Employee Assistance Programs, community-based resources for domestic abuse, substance abuse, mental health issues, and other needs that may arise.
Preferred Qualifications: * Experience in higher education is preferred.
